Catherine and Colin's Real Wedding by Couple Photography.
The beautiful Catherine and very handsome Colin were married in St. Patrick's Church, Celbridge in August this year after six years together. Catherine planned the wedding from her home in England with help from her family and from a little site called WeddingsOnline.ie!
Catherine and Colin chose Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream as the inspiration for their wedding decor. Catherine's bridesmaids wore floor-length purple evening gowns and carried cascading flowers, and Colin's groomsmen wore grey and silver tails.
Roslyn Byrne of Couple Photography captured their day from the start.
How we met...
We met in Sheffield as Colin had come over to play football for Sheffield United and I had chosen to go to University in Sheffield - so it really was fate. We kept bumping into each other around campus and I was smitten with his Irish accent. It was in the student union when we finally got chatting and we arranged to go out the week after.
Our proposal...
It was Christmas Eve and Colin got his dad, who had collected us from the airport, to take us to Powerscourt on the way home. Colin had talked about the place lots which he had often visited as a child. It was about 8.30am, cold and I was tired and Colin wanted to take a walk! When we got to the fountain with the two horses, Colin made a very traditional proposal and there were lots of tears! We had planned most of the wedding by the time we got back to the car!
Our photographer...
We met Couple Photography at a Wedding Fair and loved how natural they were and thought the showcase albums were amazing. They had lots of unique ideas for shots and when we met Ros at her studio we knew we'd be in safe hands! On the day, they were there for every moment and had us all over Carton House to make the most of the amazing venue. We are struggling to choose our favourite shots now for the album!
My Dress...
Pronovias Farnes - It was the first dress I tried on and I fell in love! It really is true - you know when it's 'the one'.
Our wedding theme...
The theme was Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' which has quite a medieval feel so I had wild shower bouquets, petals in my dress, and lots of candles. The bridesmaid dresses were amethyst so we had this as the theme colour and added it to the flower girls dresses but mostly we stuck with ivory. The groomsmen were in grey and had silver cravats.
My favourite part of the wedding day...
Hard to choose a moment but seeing all my guests at the church was one. Also the 30 minutes Colin and I had to ourselves before the wedding meal in our Bridal Suite where we practiced his speech was an amazing and unexpected part of the day.
Our ceremony...
We decided to get married in Ireland and knew we wanted St Patrick's, Colin's family church. We had a singer and harpist at the wedding (Silver Rose) who were just breathtaking and Colin's old School Principal, Father McEvoy, conducted the service for us, which was such an honour. Our readers helped make the service very personal and the time went so fast.
The funniest part of the day...
To be honest we laughed pretty much all day but the funniest part has to be the speeches, especially when the embarrassing stories came out about us both. Also, I didn't really relax and stop chatting to guests until we went to the resident’s bar at 2am so I really enjoyed sitting there on a bar stool in my dress drinking until 6am with my new husband and the last of our guests!
My piece of advice for other brides...
Just really think about what you want from your day and do your best to plan for that. Call in all your favours to cut costs! Living in England I was hooked on WeddingsOnline to find all the suppliers so that really helped me. Enjoy the planning phase too as it really does say a lot about you as a couple in terms of how you decide things, especially when you don't agree! Choose your bridesmaids, especially your Chief, well as they are your sanity on the day! Once you get to the day before, you have to let go as there's nothing more you can do but go with it and enjoy the day as it really does go so fast. We had a three day event just to drag it out!
