Kate and Michaels spectacular Malta wedding planned by Dream Days Weddings and photographed by Simonas Svitra.
Bride and Groom: Kate and Michael Kavanagh, a HR Manager and an Electrician
Date: September 16, 2022
Engagement: 18 months
Kate and Michael were married in a beautiful wedding abroad. Malta was their chosen destination, with ceremony and reception overlooking the spectacular Balluta Bay.
They met in Thailand whilst travelling on their way to Australia. When they finally arrived in Oz, Michael left his friends in Brisbane to meet Kate in Sydney and they've been together ever since!
Between the beautiful bay, the Villa and the sunshine Malta had the perfect, comfortable vibe that Michael and Kate were looking for. They chose wildflowers as their wedding theme and a berry red shade for their beautiful bridesmaids!
Mariella and Mark from Dream Days Weddings helped to create their perfect day.
We met... In Thailand on a year out travelling. We were both with separate groups of friends stopping off in Thailand on our way to Australia. We met on the beach one morning and kept bumping into each other throughout our travels around Thailand. We reached Australia separately but Michael ended up leaving his friends in Brisbane to come and meet me in Sydney, we moved in together and have lived together ever since!
First impressions of Michael... Cute but a little intoxicated and annoying. He grew on me!
Michael’s first impressions of you... Love at first sight!
Our proposal... He proposed to me in Airlie beach, Whitsundays in Australia, he brought me to the water edge where there was champagne and candles set up. As the sun went down he got on one knee and asked me to marry him!
Pageboys and flowergirls...Our pageboys were my two nephews who looked gorgeous as did our beautiful flowergirl.
Groomsmen... Michael’s best man was his brother and his groomsmen were his three best friends and his ushers were his other two best friends.
Bridesmaids... My bridesmaids were my two sisters, my adopted sister and my best friend.
Our ceremony... It was a lovely, religious ceremony. Our priest had a great sense of humour and a penchant for story telling which made the ceremony special and meaningful but also light-hearted and enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the fact that the priest involved all members of the bridal party and all of our immediate family members.
Our wedding theme/ colours... We had a wild flower theme so we had a mixture of colours. My bridesmaids were in berry red and my dress was ivory. I wanted a relaxed theme that was warm and natural.
My dress... was ivory, with a cowl neck at the front, it was backless except for some jewel detailing down the middle.
We chose our venue because… It overlooked the sea, was relatively relaxed, allowed outdoor music and had a view of our church.
My advice for other brides... Be happy with how you look on the day and apart from that don’t sweat the small stuff it is not important on the day and will not make or break your wedding. Most of all enjoy it, it goes by so fast and you can’t get it back!
Our favourite moment... My favourite part of the wedding was the dancing outside our venue. The lighting was fabulous and set the scene perfectly, the band was great and everyone got up and let loose. To be able to dance the night away with the backdrop of the stunning Balluta Bay and our church lit against the darkness was just priceless.
Our first dance song... Dire Straits - Romeo and Juliet
Our favourite wedding picture... There are a few I love but I think my favourite is one of Michael and during our first dance.
