David Fielden 2013 bridal collection.
I get incredibly excited at the arrival of David Fielden’s collections each season (see our review of David Fielden 2012 here) and usually zoom through each image with a childlike gusto. However, I found myself in a daze watching the images of his 2013 Milan show slide across my screen. There is a calmness and serenity to some of these creations not usually present in a Fielden line, and while some of these dresses simply don’t work on the models (and these I chose to not include below, as I think it would almost do the pieces an injustice) the overall aesthetic is as beautifully original as we have come to expect from the London couturier.
A Celtic tone is achieved through delicate silk embroidery, while the ‘master of the sheath’ retains his crown with structured-but-soft silk satin numbers that could cause a jaws-on-floor epidemic. Floral embellishments and light and sheer A-lines provide an almost mythological element that wouldn’t be out of place at a production of Children of Lir. Feminine silhouettes are given a hard edge with Fielden’s audacious choice of accessories - chain mail veils and steel breast and shoulder plates should be left to the set of Game of Thrones perhaps - but nothing can take away from these spectacular creations (no matter how hard he tries).
