Latvian born designer Katya Shehurina first came to our attention as one of the specially selected bridal designers to be stocked by Anthropologie’s crazy successful online wedding project; BHLDN. Katya has been called ‘one of the most perspective designers in Eastern Europe’, and was crowned the audience choice ‘outstanding designer’ for her 2012/2013 collection at Riga Fashion week.
This year, Frilly Frocks in Drogheda, Co. Louth added to their already vast and wonderful wardrobe, and indeed their stylish and excellent name, by becoming the exclusive stockists of the Katya Katya range in Ireland.
“We are delighted to welcome such a modern and forward-thinking designer to our rails,” said Dara, owner of Frilly Frocks, "we had been following Katya's career path for some time and were delighted to have finally met with her this year. Her frocks are luxurious and timeless... we simply had to have them!"
Katya’s dresses are constructed of separate parts, which can be fashioned into entirely different outfits by combining the separate skirts, tops and dresses with other items, or by wearing with different coloured slips beneath the lace overlays. Some of the gowns consist of a single white slip which is worn with full luxurious lace coats, playful tulle skirts and sashes, or elegant full length sheer dresses.
“Katya is unlike any other designer we have had in the store," says Dara. "Her designs are so versatile and so wearable even after the big day itself, which I think will give brides real value for money and, of course, some to treasure for years to come.”

Katya describes her designs as ‘feminine and playful’, some creations become more extravagant but she maintains that all are ‘cosy’. Her designs are certainly for the more graceful woman, whom she also notes is ‘bright, mysterious, unpredictable and charming’ but also has an air of vulnerability about her.
