Bride's Diary

It's Bridget Jones all over again!!!!

Never have I ever felt so unattractive and unsexy as the moment I put on those knickers!!! I went out shopping while off on leave recently and bought two pairs of "hold me in" knickers (or firm control as they say on the label) so that I have them when I go down for my first dress fitting (which I've provisionally made for Friday 13th August). When making the appointment, I was quite surprised to learn that there was practically no appointments made for that date until I made mine. I can't understand why some one would be that superstitious. I was born on the 13th May so I don't have any issues with the date being the 13th, or a Friday for that matter.

However, I digress. I've started to do that a lot too, lately. Start with one thing and realise that there are 100's of other things I should also be doing and never really getting to do any of them properly or with due attention. You see, I've just done it again!

Now, getting back to those undies. I need to have something assisting my tummy in the dress or else I really will look like the "Michelin" man (all in white with spare tyres where there shouldn't be any on me) on my wedding day. After having our son, I should have gotten my tummy back into shape but never really got around to it. So I went looking in Brown Thomas, Roches Stores, Dunnes Stores and La Senza (which has beautiful stuff, but just not what I was looking for under my dress). I ended up wandering back to the mother-ship which is Marks & Spencer. I think I've reached an age where anything outfit I end up wearing has some part of it from that store. After looking at the thongs (must have been a bloke who came up with the idea of women wearing a shoestring for underwear), the highlegs, hipsters, boxers, tangas, and God knows whatever other incarnations were designed to be worn under clothes, my attention was drawn across the shop floor to the "control briefs". Brief they are not! They are full on, hold-you-in-and-keep-you-there passion killer pants. They also have a lovely pair of light control pants (read for this pretty but don't do much in the tummy-holding-in department) but they had sequins on them. I was about to buy them but then thought what if they glittered under the dress on the video or the sequins got caught by the sunlight or something, so back on the rail them went. The ones I ended up selecting do have a lovely bit of lacy detail on the side but that is about it when it comes to jazzing them up. I made sure that the size on the hanger was the size of the pants (as it has happened before that they don't always match up) and duly went to pay for them. I also picked a more flirtatious pair for another night.

Furthermore, I've also had my hair trial since I posted last. I made the appointment for the first slot of the morning on Saturday. I was sitting in the salon (after having already washed my hair myself at home) and the hairdresser began putting huge Velcro rollers in my hair. Although I had brought with me many pictures taken from bridal magazines, this didn't affect the style that the hairdresser had already decided on for my hair. I was disappointed with this to say the least. I let her progress and do a half-up half-down style. She applied half a can of mousse to my hair, back-combed it and pinned it into place within 60 minutes and to be honest, it was lovely. It just wasn't what I thought I'd have. I asked her to try my style (much simpler) and I liked it too but after thinking about it, if I could have a style somewhere between her beautiful one and my simpler one, I'd be delighted.

I've also had my first dress fitting, we booked our honeymoon and we sent off our invites, but I'll keep those stories for the next edition.

Till then take care,

Lynne
