You have a right to be a bit upset but yes men think differently... I have been picking my own presents for the last couple of years cause h2b doesnt have the imagination so he says... so I think your very lucky that he went to all the "trouble" to pick one himself :o0 Hope you get it soon :)

I'd be a little hurt but I also think that it depends on what type of guy he is.
Is he usually good at buying presents, without prompt, himself?
If not, then don't expect him to be something he's not.
If he is, then you are entitled to be hurt.

I wouldn't be too bothered, men are just not as organised. My husband got my Christmas present on Christmas Eve, even though he had PLENTY of time beforehand to get something!

Yes you're a brat. (Your words not mine!)
He took you out for dinner so it's not like you didn't get anything.
Maybe he doesn't have much money? Dinner isn't always cheap.
Unless of course the 'local italian' was a take away pizza place?

I think you're being too hard on him, if my OH took me out for dinner for my bday I would be happy with that and wouldn't expect a gift as well.

Glad it's not just me who thought this! Ungrateful much?

It's not like he ignored your birthday, a card and a meal out? Not bad. And a present is forthcoming. It has happened to me that I haven't had a present on time due to one thing or another at various times in my life. I hope I wouldn't be 'hurting' the recipient.

I'm not sure what type of present you were expecting but if my DH took me out for a meal on my birthday I would be delighted. I know some women expect more but like someone else said maybe money is tight with him. I wouldn't say you were a brat, maybe a bit unrealistic.

What's there to be hurt about???? You were treated to a meal, and got a lovely card with a lovely message in it. Maybe the present is so special that he's waiting for the right moment, like my friend who got her Christmas present and birthday present together for her birthday in January.... a diamond ring.... She's not moaning....

Plain and simple... you're being a total brat... the man made a huge effort, and thinking about something material instead of enjoying the fact he brought you out for dinner to spend time with you is being a brat...

Time to grow up and appreciate what matters..

Wow, people are being ridiculously harsh.

I would imagine the issue is not the gift, but the fact that he was 'too busy' to make the effort.

If the OP's partner had said 'I'm bringing you for dinner for your birthday present' I'm sure she would have been more than happy.

The issue is that he said he was getting her a gift, but said he was 'too busy'. It's the implication that his nights out were more important than making the effort to get the gift he planned on getting.
