Dont really know what to say only that he sounds like he realy doesnt have much confidence in himself at all, that he would like to go back to collage but is afraid he wont fit in? You said he did that twice and didnt settle. It will, in fairness be much harder to "fit in" being an older student.

What about doing an assertive course between now and sept, assuming the college year is starting in september. My cousin wasnt even able to keep eye contact, or really hold a conversation with people she knew all her life, she had no confidence in herself. Her brother got her this course and she is a totally different person, so bubbely and would sit and talk to anyone, she is now on a career break from work and traveling Australia with girls that she met about a year or so ago!

I think it would help him gain confidence in himself and he would be a much more rounded person starting his course in september, with maybe, a higher % of him sticking it through.

I think he sounds scared to be honest. But brave too, I wouldnt mind going a different career path but really havn't the balls to do it!

ETA : I would just enroll him in the course as he probably wouldnt agree to it- men!
Love is . . . . . putting up with snoring even though it drives you absolutly crazy xxx
