Do you all have brilliant mother in laws?!

Hi my mum in law is really great- treats me and my family so well (great with grandkids etc) However it is a two way street - glad I have a good one- you hear some horror stories

I am delighted to say that yes, I love my MIL, and my ILS generally. I know that not everyone is as lucky though...maybe it is down to the fact that we don't live near them so when we do meet up there is plenty news to share, and we treasure the time we spend together. Everyone keeps out of everyone else's business, but I also feel like if we needed them to become involved, then they would. And vice versa. I hope they have the same opinion of me as I have of them

I have a great MIL. She is so good to us. Can easily sit down to have a cup of tea and a chat with her. Both her and FIL are very generous to us. Shes great fun on a night out and I have invited her on my hen. I do realise how lucky I am after reading a lot of the stories on here.

Nope - haven't seen my FIL in about 10/11 years my MIL I seen last year at my fathers funeral when she showed up before that I hadn't seen her in about 6/7 years - we didn't invite the MIL or FIL to our wedding but his brothers and sisters were invited and most came - not a loss to either of us to be honest - he has my mother to nag him :o0

I'm very lucky with my FMIL, she's such a genuinely lovely woman and we get on very well. We swap recipes, have lunch together and have a laugh together. Similarly with FFIL, we get on well and we can have a laugh together. I read about some horror stories on here and can't help but feel very lucky. With regard to the wedding, they just keep saying "It's your special day, do whatever the two of you want. If you're both happy then we're happy."

My MIL is brilliant, I get on so well with her especially with our first baby due this summer she has just been great. My DH has a step-mother and sometimes I want to pull my hair out. She is nice but very overbearing and demanding.

I get on well with all of the future IL's. FMIL is a lovely woman, FFIL is a very interesting man and his partner I get along with also whenever I meet her. I'm very lucky to have such a lovely extended family on H2B's side, any of his aunties and uncles that I've met have all been lovely people too. I do thank my lucky stars when I read some of the horror stories on here!

I have to say I'm very lucky with my future ILs. My FMIL and I chat for hours and she's been so good at helping me with my dress and the BM dresses. We don't live in the same town as the ILs but I look forward to spending time with them which is amazing. I'm not Irish so obviously my parents don't live here but my ILs have taken me in as one of the family since h2b and I first got together. My h2b jokes that his parents like me more than him! Mind you my mum's the same with h2b- he can literally do no wrong!

My own family are very much the opposite of a traditional family so for me it was hard to grasp the way my husbands family were, all so close, I have to say though, I think at first it was like, what really, is it supposed to be like this but now I love the fact that I can call them my family. I think its fantastic to have a family where you can readily rely on them and who are as excited as you about your kids or special events etc. my mother in law is fantastic and goes on shopping sprees for the kids, when our little one passed her auditions for a stage school the whole family were on the phone congratulating her and buying her little gifts to say well done. Lets hear it for the in laws :o)ll

Another big 'yes' from me I'm afraid! I get on so much better with MIL than with my own mother - if it wasn't for DH (and the fact that I'm 43!) I'd want her to adopt me :o0

Ye, she's brilliant at making me feel like crap! :o0

Ok thats a bit harsh, but I really do have to keep her at arms length.

I've gotten it ALL:

you've put on weight/lost weight
do you need help with the housework O:|

you need to get over your miscarriages :eek

you need to wear jeans to suit your shape >:o(

X is doing so well as she's a (professional) whereas thicko here's degree took 4 years while x's was 3!)
Your bump is such & such a shape/ low etc
Ye get the gist?

Whereas she has NEVER once said a bad word to X the professional (who has as many faults as I do), because she has too much respect for her- being a professional, & the fact that she remnds me of this at every opportunity - like I didn't already know O:|

I did get very angry with her though when she started directing her critisism at my DS, saying he was very heavy & big & was that normal :eek

I was so upset. he's within his range & the child hasn't been sick one day, he's so healthy, but can she see that? :duh:

A rather elderly cousin of mine summed her up brilliantly one day & said to me " she's a Sh1t stirrer"! Got it in one :o0

Oh my God Luka, you poor thing! I wouldn't be able to hack that, I'd just keep well away from her. How bloody dare she?! She sounds as sensitive as a brick, I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but you've every right to keep her at arms length!

I don't think I'd be able to hold my tongue in your situation, fair play! :innocent:
