Honeymoon in Rome for 8 nights?

Honeymoon in Rome for 8 nights?

Postby kellcarr » Sun Apr 08, 2022 1:05 pm

Hi,
I'm looking at honeymoon destinations at the moment. We're thinking of going for the third week in August. We've been to Rome before - we were guests at another wedding & didn't have time to see any sights. We always said we'd come back & do it properly. I'm half tempted to do the lazy honeymoon in the caribbean, but we don't have that kind of budget, plus I suspect we'd get bored after a few days ;o)
Also, we've 2 kids, so the longest I want to be away from them is 8 nights, and a busy sight seeing honeymoon would probably take advantage of not having the kids with us :o)ll
On the flights, accommodation & what to do, I haven't a clue though. Would love some advice on whether to book yourself, or with a travel agent? Stay in a hotel or apartment? What to see & what to avoid? If anyone can give us some hints/tips etc. that'd be great O-O
Thanks! :heartbeat:
Kellcarr.

Hi,

I was in Rome for 4 nights a few years ago and we had a really lovely time, but (and this might just be me) I think 4/5 nights would be loads to see everything there. Obviously all the usual stuff is lovely to see, the Vatican, the Palatine hill, Spanish steps (and you'd nearly miss the Trevi fountain it's not half as big as I expected!) sitting around having coffee in the piazzas etc. But maybe 8 nights would be a bit much? And in August it's going to be roasting there, so take plenty of breaks! We had a big row on one day because I was melting and wanted to sit and have a drink and OH was having none of it!!

We went on a tight budget so can't advise on a hotel as we stayed in a flea hole that's DEFINITELY not suitable for honeymoon! And although we ate in some lovely restaurants I can't remember any names now, sorry. If I were you, I'd maybe try to spend a few days in Rome and a few somewhere else, maybe train to Florence and fly into one and out of the other? My OH says Florence is nicest city he's ever been to, I haven't been there but he's travelled a fair bit and still loves it!

One other tip, make sure you check opening hours of Sistene chapel if you want to see it, we went down twice but closed both times so missed it! Enjoy the planning and have a great HM! :o)ll

I think i'll have to agree with Fastlane. We went to Rome for a long weekend 2 years ago and got 80% of what we wanted done in 3 days. Only thing we really missed was the catacombs.
We stayed at Hotel Barberini which might not suit you for your honeymoon as is slightly cramped city centre hotel but to its credit had a nice breakfast room on top floor overlooking city and it was 5 mins walk from the Trevi fountain. Also restaurant recommendation nearby ...Trattoria Tritone.

Maybe you could split it and do 3/ 4 days in rome and stay in some nice coastal town for the other 4 days. There must be some nice places within an hour or two on the train from Rome.

The H10 hotel which is near Trastevere is the best I've seen for the price. It's listed as 4* and it appears to be just that. I've found that the rating's in Italy are not the same as we're used to and I've stayed in a few 3*'s in Italy that were not great.

I haven't stayed at the H10 but visited it before booking for family and its located off a busy shopping street with loads of restaurants/bars etc, so you could eat out cheaply. They also offer a free shuttle bus to the main attractions and there is a regular bus service right outside which will also take you to most of the attractions or link to trains etc. Its also a reasonably new build which there aren't too many of in Rome so the facilities in my opinion will be better than some of the old hotels.

4 nights would be plenty to see the main sights and Florence is a fab place to visit but the hotels are expensive there. I stayed at a best western which is very central and a nice hotel, cant remember the price, but not cheap.

Remember also that a lot of businesses close for August.

8 nights is too many in Rome..

What about flying to Venice for 3 nights and then heading to Lake Garda for 5 ...best of both worlds. Amazing city and holiday vibe at the Lake??

Probably a bit late for you now but we've just booked our honeymoon (yay!) 3 nights in Rome and 7 in Sorrento. We were pricing originally though 2 and 5days which suits your time frame better. The travel agents said about 4 days would be perfect in Rome so you should see what your budget allows to see a second city too
