Venue search meltdown! HELP!

Venue search meltdown! HELP!

Postby 2012bride101 » Thu Oct 13, 2021 4:02 pm

The more venues I look at, the more confusing it gets....

We originally set out searching for private / exclusive hire venues - but are willing to consider other options at this stage. There will be 150ish guests, all of which will require accommodation on site or nearby.

So far we have looked at:

Markree Castle
Ballymagarvey Village
Clonabreany House
Brook Lodge
Boyne Hill House
Rathsallagh
Lyrath
Summerhill House
Finnstown House
Tinakilly House
Bellinter House

Any ideas? Willing to travel!! Also considering Lough Rynn, Kilronan Castle, Barberstown Castle, Lough Eske, Adare Manor, Dromoland, Ballyseede if the budget stretches.

Hi Clarice,
Have you considered Kinnity Castle in Offaly. Its about a 90 minute drive from Dublin.
It would have the exclusivity that you mention and is a fabulous venue with great food, great atmosphere, a real castle as opposed to a hotel calling itself a castle, really friendly staff. and stunning settings for photographs both inside and around the grounds.
As far as I know they have 38 rooms available, I know thats probably not enough but Birr is only 10-12 minutes away and there is lots of accomodation there.
They are also doing great deals at the moment.
I hope this helps.

Tulfarris in Blessinngton?
It has 60-70 rooms, and you could ask if you could revserve them all which would turn it into an exclusive venue.

We got married in Cabra Castle and have to say it was the best wedding we have ever been at (lol, think you always say that about your own!).
Great spot and room enough for everyone. The Courtyard Rooms were great and had everyone talking. (Did help the bar only closed at 5 :))

No idea about the prices now as it was 4 years ago.

Remember to consider the time of year you are getting married if you are going to travel, I remember lot's of wedding related disruption last year with the snow.

Aside from that I would recommend you make a list of what's important to you two for your wedding day & then narrow down the list of venues, as driving all around the country to view will probably start driving you crazy!

Hope your search goes well

How about Tankardstown House in Meath or a bit further afield you've Castlemartyr, Dromoland Castle, Castle Oliver in Limerick which is stunning but may not cover your accommodation requirements

Hi - Firstly can i offer my services as a Videographer.

With regards to venues, I have worked in Markree as I personally wouldnt hold my reception
there. lough eske would be a runner for me or cromleach lodge in sligo is another hot spot.

heard of couples going for temple house in sligo also.

have you looked at glenlo abbey in galway city

best of luck

Thanks for that! I would love to go to Sligo as that is where my family is from. However, most of our guests are from Dublin so want to be with 1hour-1 1/2hours from Dublin. If we move the search further we'll definitely consider those. Thanks

Why did you discount the venues you've already looked at? What don't they have?
Have you considered Darver Castle?

Hi All,
This is my first time on this site... having trouble picking a venue in and around Galway. Can anyone give any feedback on the Glenlo Abbey?
Thanks in advance
