Seating Plan

Postby larafan » Mon Jul 04, 2022 9:04 pm

Next issue to be dealt with. What are your opinions on 'mixing' guests as opposed to seating people with people they know? I'm trying to strike a balance and put people beside someone they know and someone they don't know. My family outnumbers by far so I'm not aiming for a perfect mix...

i have no idea what to do here - think it would be safer to keep each family together and keep friends of mine together etc. though i might put my horrible granny with his horrible aunt - at least then they'd both pretend to have manners and behave themselves  preferably at the back of the room along with my horrible priest! oooh,,this seating plan idea is sounding more appealing  i'm really, really not looking forward to doing it although i know i absolutely will be doing one!

Definately mixing them up. I have a much bigger family than H2B so I want them to mingle. I have to say the guest list was a breeze compared to the seating plan! Driving me nuts. Ol

Fair play to Fio!

We've decided not to have one. We're not having a huge number to the wedding (90ish) and we've decided to let people sit where they want.

I don't really forsee a problem with mixing as a lot of people going already know each other

I have a large immediate family 2 sis, 4 bros. I put my bros on a table each with their wifes and kids and then worked round that. (My sisters were on the top table)We had a crowd from UK who I put together and mil friends I put together. Most of our own friends - about 6 tables of 12 we mixed. Did spend a good bit of time trying to ensure that there was a good mix of people on each table.

It was fun sitting at the top table seeing everyone chatting away - we were so pleased with our 'job well done'!

Lots of people said it was a good idea to mix them even though they may have moved back to their groups after the meal.... it meant that they got up dancing with people that until that day had never met.

We didnt do individual place names though.

just from personal experience I come for a biggish family (4 sis, 2 bro) and at my eldest brothers wedding they decided to mix up the familys and it was the least enjoyable family reception i was at  Please don't get me wrong I had a great day but i really wanted to be with my immediate family and have a good laugh and cry, but instead i was stuck with my aunt and cousin and a couple of my sis-in-laws mad relations (at least i had my h2b with me)

i'll be leaving my family together for the most part, and mixing some tables of friends, but not a whole lot!

I think I'll be leaving the families together but will probably mix our friends a little, the room works well in that there's two very long tables (My Dads & FIL2B's family can take those) and two smaller long tables for my Mum's and MIL2B's family, and then all friends at the circular tables on the dancefloor. There's a couple of family members that I want an eye kept on and they're much better sitting beside a brother/sister!

God may have created man before woman, but there is always a rough draft before the masterpiece

We're definitely not mixing. The best weddings I've been to are the ones where I've known everyone or most people at my table. I've always felt a bit awkward at mixed tables.....after the "who are you related to/where are you from/what do you do" questions it tends to get a bit stilted IMO, whereas with friends you relax instantly & start enjoying yourself straight away :D

I think this is the "traditional" order (from left to right as you look at the table)

Groom's Father, Bride's Mother, Best Man, Bride, Groom, Bridesmaid, Bride's Father, Groom's Mother, Priest.

We did the family together & mixed up the rest of the guests. It's far too easy to stick with your own crew at every social event and not mix. We found that everybody got on like a house on fire and there was much more mingling between different groups of guests

we're not mixing either - fully agree that the best weddings are always the ones where you know everyone at your table! the most important thing is for people to enjoy their day and night.........and that's done better without forced conversation with people you hardly know.
