Im not going to go back and reread all 5 pages of this thread but I dont think anybody was trying to imply that Annemariewatt's behaviour (sorry about this Annemarie, this is getting more about the principal now than you yourself!) is because she is young. Or at least let me be more specific I certainly wasnt trying to imply this. What I did imply, was that she possibly hadnt used a message board before as she is young (based on the fact that when I was 21 I hadnt). I tried to explain why some posters had reprimanded (be they right or wrong) her use of punctuation etc within that context so that she wouldnt be put off posting and disappear.

I dont think its patronising to help someone based your experiences when you were that age. As a previous poster mentioned, a lot can be lost tone-wise in "posting" and I think in this scenario this is bit too much over-reading into the patronising part.

Im going to join the girls on the other thread for a jaffa-cake.

I never said that you were trying to patronise her, in fact I think your advice to her re: message boards was very constructive. I only responded to you because you asked the question about why "you are young" is patronising. I just answered the question, that's all! The previous 5 pages do explain how the subject of patronising came up...

Anyway, I don't think annemariewatts has been scared off, and that's the main thing!
