Videographers and terms and conditions

Hi all

Anyone come accross videographers with a condition that they can use any aspect of your recording for their promotion purposes without asking you? My work would not look on this well! O:| and though I booked them I was not given these terms until after the deposit was paid??? All advice welcome.

Did you sign a contract? i defo wouldnt like the sound of that.. did you question them about it yet?

Hi, I reviewed the contract our photographer gave us before signing and booking and it gave them automatic rights to use our photos for advertising, promotion etc. I pointed this out and that I could not agree to this and the wording in the contract was promptly changed. The contracts used by many suppliers are standard enough so make sure you read the contracts and insist on changes. My contract now reads that our consent is required if photos want to be used in a portfolio or for promotion on their website/articles etc. Hope that helps :)

That sounds a bit dodgy alright... usually T&Cs are provided upfront or when you book. Is this a registered company?

If you are not happy I would also demand changes to what you really want as pinkunicorn suggested :wv

Regarding the publication / promotion I could imagine it is the usual "stuff" any Photographer or other Videographer would have up too. Afer all: if they don't showcase their Highlight Videos i.e. pubish them on their sites, we cannot watch them and decide if we like their style :)
