Choice of Main??

Choice of Main??

Postby Kari_ie » Sat Jan 01, 2022 11:08 pm

Are many of you having a choice of main courses?
I was all on for it thinking its only any extra 4 quid per head until H2B sensibly pointed out that in reality we are talking about an extra 600 euro.

The bridal party will have a choice, and there will be a Veggie option too but I'm not sure if it's nessecary to have further options.

What do you think?

Hi Kari,

I've just been reading through the wedding menu thread and it looks like about half are having a choice for the main course. I still haven't made up my mind. It's €7.50 extra in my hotel which is very steep I think. (I know of other hotels where they charge €2.50). I think if you go for a "safe" choice then it's fine. Something like beef or chicken. The last wedding I was at didn't have a choice (they had beef) and noone seemed to notice or care.

Originally I was a bit the same and wondered whether we should have a choice. However after going to 3 weddings last year where there was no choices available (aside from the veggie option) we decided that we were going to go with what we loved and hope everyone else likes.

Ive put the menu choices on my wedding website so if guests dont like what we have they will be able to see what the veggie alternative is..

hi, no were not having a choice as hotel doesn't offer one, we'll probably go for beef but instead if people dont eat beef and would prefer chicken or veggie option the hotel will prepare the meals in advance if we give them the numbers. so we're thinking about sending a tick the box if you dont eat beef, would you prefer the chicken, or veggie option with our invites that can be returned with the rsvp, so that will give us the numbers.

We had a choice but it was included in the basic price - we played it safe with beef or salmon and everyone was thrilled. To me it's a pure rip-off if hotels charge for a choice.

If you don't have a choice then just one piece of advice - avoid Lamb! We were at a wedding in the past where the main was the most awful "lamb" I've ever had - and lamb is something a lot of people don't eat.

we were actually considering not having a choice until i read that last post...thanks mia for putting it in perspective. i am one of the ppl who HATE eating lamb, i know if i went somewhere and lamb was the only option, it would put a dampner on the evening...we were going to go with pork, but now i think we will go with pork or beef (not keen on ol'faithful salmon myself)...what do you girls think of cod as the fish choice?

Athas I think cod would be an excellent choice, I was hoping that there would have been something like a baked cod dish on my menu but there was only salmon or trout and like yourself I am not a fan of the old faithful salmon dish and I dont think many people would have went with the trout so I am having a choice but I havent decided on what I am having yet, it looks like it will be two meat dishes.

Maybe my family and friends are a little strange but I wouldnt consider any kind of fish a "safe" choice

Ive lost track of the amount of people I know that dont like seafood.

Each to their own of course ..

Not having a choice, going for chicken main as it summer and I reckon beef would be a bit heavy. If they don't like chicken they can have the veggie option. 3.50 for a choice is the cost in my hotel and I think No way!! If I was allowed a choice I'd stick to my chicken and also offer a fish dish - so if I win the lottery maybe then!

We didn't have a choice, it was quite expensive I think, cant remember the exact figure!! We had beef and everyone raved about the food. I think if the food is very good you dont need to worry as much about people not liking it.

Hiya

We were thinking of having turkey and ham. At least then if somebody doesnt like one - they can have more of the other. Only problem is, I'm getting married in August. What do you all think - is it ok to have t&h as a main in the summer :?

As far as i know we can have a choice.Id probably pick beef & salmon.I think turkey and ham is abit boring to be honest as most weddings have it.Its would be fine for a summer wedding if you decide to go with it.

Hi everyone,

I'm a bit concerned about the negative feelings about lamb. My H2B loves lamb and we were considering it as an option (along with salmon - choice included in the meal price) but I'm a bit concerned now.

Do lots of people really not like lamb?

Thanks
Carol
