Casual Wedding Reception

Casual Wedding Reception

Postby bfpasap » Tue Jan 19, 2022 11:39 pm

We are thinking of having a very small family wedding, maybe having church cermony at about 3 then going for a meal and then later on having a band / D.J. and having finger food with friends / colleagues / neighbours / relations. Has anyone done this? How did it go?

Hi reachhigh2010,
I'm afraid I haven't done it but I really wish I had so just thought I'd add my tuppence worth. I really liked the idea of a casual wedding or doing something a bit different but one thing led to another (i.e. trying to please eveyone) and I've ended up with the full on works, -big hotel, big meal etc etc. At the beginning of the plans all I could think about was getting married to my beau but now all I think about is budgets, numbers, what needs to be done...
I'm looking forward to my day but there's a part of me thinking I should have done things differently.
If you don't mind me offering a bit of advice, go with your gut.
Good luck hon & enjoy your planning! :)

Hi reachhigh2010,

We are having a very small wedding abroad and having an evening reception in a country house when we come back, something similar to what you are thinking. 7 in the evening, prosecco and beer on arrival with canapes. Then cutting the cake and serving that after canapes. We have a local band playing, not typical wedding band, they really get the crowd going. Later in the evening we're having fish and chips in cones, so guests don't get too drunk. Ipod before and after the band and a photo booth for pics.

I know a couple who had a small wedding meal in a restaurant in Dublin and then had a party in the Crypt at Christchurch that evening and I heard it was brilliant! We had considered this but had always wanted to get married in Italy so that's how we came to our decision.

Best of luck with all your wedding plans,
Pamela

We are planning to do the same thing. I love the idea of a small non-wedding type wedding. We are having 40 people + 10 kids (nieces and nephews). Although we are going to have the ceremony at 1.30, the meal is not until 7. I considered having the church a bit later - but I thought then that I need time for photos etc...........

Anyway, we are going to a really fab hotel for the meal and drinks after in the bar and chilling out with a chat. There will be 2 guys playing "background" music. They are there every friday and sat night. We are not having a band/dj.
The only "crux" is that this hotel only does big weddings - 200+. So when I rang about booking my "wedding" in I had to say to the guy - its more of a family dinner than a wedding. So I'm hoping that it will all be ok. The hotel is closed until march - so I'm a bit nervous that the manager will say "we only do big weddings - too bad" :o( :o(

But I'm sure it will be fine......... fingers and toes crossed.

Have you any plans or ideas yet yourself ??????????????????????????????
