How much would it cost to get a cake iced???
Having seen the prices of cakes in stores my sister is going to make our wedding cake for us, hoping a three tier cake. Could not afford to shell out 300-500e on a cake! any ideas how much i would pay to get the cakes professionally iced?? Hoping to get all ingredients and icing done for 150e, is that realistic?

Hi Monicah,
We got a three-tier cake iced for €130 (I've attached a pic). This was the very cheapest that I could find -- a small local bakery. My mother made three fruit cakes (10", 9" and 8") and so it was covered with both almond paste (real ground almonds and not that yellow stuff) and then white fondant icing. We also got a 'kitchen cake' from the same bakery for those who don't like fruit cake -- it was vanilla sponge sandwiched with strawberries and cream and was also iced (but just with the white icing). That was €40 and it was a massive big slab of cake! If you want any details, just give me a shout. Last edited by Sally76 on Wed Aug 17, 2022 4:54 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Borderline realistic, maybe as mentioned a bakery would do the cheapest job as they would be buying supplies in large bulk. Is it fruit, if so then the almond paste is an extra cost, the average 3 tier would take up to a 5kg box of almond and sugarpaste depending on the size of tiers. This will cost approx 50E plus cost of boards, after that you are paying for labour, the less decoration required the cheaper it will be. If you are going for 3 tiers of fruit and dont care too much about the decoration the cheapest option if probably M&S.
