Main course dilemma
Hi, having NYE wedding and have problem with menu. For our package we have choice of chicken or turkey & ham. As you can imagine neither is a great option, turkey a week after Christmas and to me chicken is not wedding food. We can upgrade to beef at a cost of €2 per person which would up our cost between €400-450. After pleading with hotel they came up with option of smoked loin of pork. Just wondering what people think of pork as main course. I've heard from few friends that people can be fussy about pork. What are opinions of other b2b? As much as I think beef is safer option I just think that's a lot of money which could be put into another element of wedding but don't want people not happy with meal. Help....confused....
Re: Main course dilemma
if it was me I would go for the beef. I really hate roast pork so if that was my only choice I wouldn't have much of a dinner/
Beef is much more of a crowd pleaser. Re: Main course dilemma
To be honest i would be delighted with the 2e charge for beef as ours want 4e which is totally sickening and would bring out package up to 67e per person, would you mind me asking how much yours is per person??
Re: Main course dilemma
I'd go for the beef. I don't think it's too much extra to pay and would be worth it. Whatever you do stay away from the turkey and ham people would not be happy

Personally, I'd be happy with chicken or with the pork, definitely not turkey and ham so soon after christmas. On saying that though I'd go for the beef as I know alot of people who don't eat chicken and also quite a few who wouldn't eat pork.
Re: Main course dilemma
We had a choice of chicken or beef at our wedding and it was pretty much 50/50 who ordered what. Got a few comments from people saying it was nice seeing chicken on the menu for a change and have since been to a few weddings where it was served so wouldn't say it wasn't wedding food at all. TBH I know far more people who eat chicken but not beef than I do who eat beef but not chicken.
Re: Main course dilemma
So look at your choices:
Chicken as you say 'is not wedding food' but most people like it and it costs less Pork I would say 'is not wedding food' and a lot of people would not like it Beef is wedding food that most people like but costs more Turkey & ham is wedding food and costs less but it is at Christmas time You basically have to decide which is more important to you personally the food or whatever other element you are going to spend the money on. I personally would go for turkey and ham, sure it's Christmas after all! [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

Thanks b2bs. H2b wants the beef so reckon well just have to take the extra costs and see if we can save it on something else. I know €2 per person isn't a huge amount but does up the cost. Then again the food & music are what people comment on most so better stick with the popular option of beef & a fish dish! Thanks for all the suggestions, been great help
Re: Main course dilemma
You could chance your arm and ask if they can provide a choice of beef or chicken at no extra cost?

Re: Main course dilemma
Tried that but wouldn't budge on the price :(
Re: Main course dilemma
Honest opinion: I think food is a big part of the day and would pay the extra for the beef. (Turkey and Ham....not again! Chicken...meh.... I personally like pork but know that a lot of people aren't keen)

To throw another opinion in I don't eat beef (although I just go for the veggie option and also sometimes there is a secret option if someone asks for it)
Depending on what is done with the chicken it could be really nice and I'd live to see pork as It would be something different. Ye I can see where your coming from with the turkey and Ham but it's not a major problem many new years eve balls etc have turkey and ham on the menu it is Xmas after all. I'd save the money as and go with chicken (or pork if your feeling brave) your never gonna make everyone happy and for the sake of €400 is it worth it. Re: Main course dilemma
I think I'd stick with the chicken. I've been to plenty of weddings serving chicken and it's been fabulous. Unless you have a choice I think Pork is a bit risky because not everybody eats it. The chicken is perfect!!!
Re: Main course dilemma
If I was a guest I would choose the chicken over the beef and if it was pork on the menu I would probably enquire as to what the vegetarian option was as I hate pork!
