Sri Lanka recommendations- or any other tropical hol?

Just having a nose online looking for somewhere tropical to go but that won't break the bank. Sri Lanka is coming in at about 1400 but I know nothing about the place. Anyone have any recommendations for a resort there or elsewhere? When May 1st looks like this I NEED sun!
