6 weeks to wedding and no dress yet!!

Hi all, I'm getting married on the first weekend in June. I paid a deposit on a dress in a very well known shop in Dublin that has been in business for a very long time. At the time of ordering I was told that the dress would be in in February . When I contacted the shop in feb I was told that the dress would only arrive eight weeks before the wedding. I contacted them again with eight weeks to go and they said not to panic and that it would be there with six weeks to go. At this stage im wondering if there is something wrong and that maybe I should look elsewhere for a sample dress. Could anyone tell me if this is normal or should I be very worried???

Dont panic..........would be a good idea to ring around and see if there is anything else that would suit if you dont get it in time but I'm sure they have checked and are sure you will receive it.

If it puts your mind at rest get them to email you with date of estimated arrival at least then you have it in writing also.

I'd say don't panic but at the same time I would call in with them to hear what's happening.

Hi thanks for the replies. But can anyone tell me if this is normal ? I have called the shop since and they told me that it should arrive yesterday when I called again today they told me it was in storage and won't be delivered until the 27th. They keep telling me to keep calm and that it is all normal. So it's gone from February to eight weeks to six weeks and now it will be four weeks. By the way I put the deposit down on this dress in June last year. At this stage I just want to see if it even exists

I dont understand what they mean about 'in storage' . If its in storage why can they not get it sent out asap

If you are really worried would you consider going in there and seeing if they have a stock gown that you could wear.

Dont know if other brides have had this problem but from a suppliers point of view when it is ordered we receive details of when it will arrive and although it may be a week or two out definately not a few months.

You are not alone!! I ordered my dress in October and was told it would be 3 months ie January. I rang up feb and was told oh no that won't be in till April! Don't panic it will be fine. Talking to me like a midwife to a teenager. Really patronising ! Rang there 2 weeks ago and I was told it would be in by last Friday. Rang today and won't be in till Tuesday. I am flying out in 3 weeks and I have not had a fitting yet!!

i had a similiar experience with my dress coming in almost 3 months after they originally said it would (though i had lots of time to spare so this wasn't a huge problem). maybe just keep the pressure on them & let them know your concerns...

hi i would be concerned just call today to see wedding dress i picked last year and was giving the wrong one and filthy it was a sample i ordered. Staff were very rude wont give back refund so i now have no dress and eight weeks to go

bridal shops should be named and shamed , i m having issues, but would you believe the briidal shop have been on and removed the post.its not on , you know the consumer is always rite, luckily im in the legal business so not letting it lie

Should be named and shamed.Have emailed letter of complaint still no reply and still wont give back my deposit gave me wrong dress, had dress threw on a chair filthy when i called to try it on and the shop was like a bomb site.They had supposely had a flood and the dress was in a box.Alarm bells should have rang two weeks ago when they asked could i give them order number on my receipt. Offered to make me a new dress if i called back down in two weeks time how could i trust this shop or deal with it ignorant staff. Heartbroken to say the least.So yet name and shame would be right.

Get onto Consumer Association and get you legal rights usually requires a letter etc but ring them and explain situation. Name and shame it's a disgrace the things people will try and do to rip people of.

I would start looking for another dress in the meantime clearly the shop have no intention of giving you the original dress.

FYI if stock is damaged by flood then their Business Interution Policy would cover them for any loss of deposits/stock to ensure that business/consumer doesn't loss out in the event of unforseen circumstances ie the flood. Most insurance companies/banks will insist on this cover as a policy condition in order for them to minimise their risk exposure and prevent bankrupcy etc.(Sorry if jargon-y I work in insurance) Basically is your dress was damaged in the flood they should have ordered a new oe their insurance would cover this.

As far as I remember I got my dress about 2 weeks before our wedding. I thought it would be in 4 weeks before but didn't arrive until 2 weeks before.

All was fine and the dress was perfect and needed no alterations except the straps but that took 10 minutes. Don't sweat it, your dress will arrive in plenty of time and be lovely.
