FMIL Cream outfit

FMIL Cream outfit

Postby newban » Tue Apr 24, 2022 9:13 am

Future mother in law has told me she bought her outfit for the wedding, it's cream dress & coat, my wedding dress is a creamy ivory colour. Do you think this is going to look odd?

Personally - I would kill her :innocent:

NO ONE should wear white/cream to a wedding imo.
Does she know the colour of your dress?
I would speak to her and politely ask here to change it. This is one thing I am totally against no matter who it is so sorry if this reply seems a little harsh on her.

don't think it would go down too well if I asked her to change it, I did tell them I got an ivory dress but prob a few months ago, went straight over her head, f sis in law went shopping with her so thought she would have remembered. Should have made a joke that we'll be matching or something but didn't, kicking myself now! Might suss f sister in law out & see what she says....argh such hassle!

Is there any other colour in it? To be honest it wouldn't bother me. Is it a knee length dress and jacket? I presume she will have a hat too. Its not like anyone will mistake her for you. Unless she is planning on turning up in a full length ivory dress I would leave her be, maybe try convince her to mix a colour in, in her hat, shoes and bag.

It wouldn't bother me if FMIL or MIL, or any guest for that matter, was in cream or ivory. What would bother me is that they didn't check with me first! I don't think it will look odd so if you're not fussed about it I'd say nothing.

ya suppose should let it go really, no point saying anything. Also having to keep stum on the fact they bought a dress that’s "like a flower girls dress" for future niece, in the 5yr old own words, f bro in law also said it, even though she isn't a flower girl zzzzz!

Camilla Parker Bowles wore a really light coloured outfit to the Royal Wedding and it looked fine.

In saying that, if my Mam or MIL wore a light coloured outfit to mine I'd be raging. I actually had to mention to people not to wear light colours to our wedding but that was only cos we were having a very small wedding and my dress was just below the knee (was bricking it that someone would wear a short dress in a light colour!)

Maybe mention it to SIL and suss them out - best of luck with it!
To anyone who knows me in the outside world, come say hi, or stop reading my posts!!!

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. It's not like people are going to mix the 2 of ye up :o0

I'd definitely ask her to mix in a different colour in with her hat/shoes/bag if it would make you feel better.

Your MIL will not look like you , there is no way she will be mistaken for the bride. I dont understand why you would want to ask your MIL to go to all the trouble and not to mention the expense of changing her outfit.
I dont understand some brides ......you do not own a colour be it cream or your bridesmaid colour.

There is nothing to understand about me as a bride to be except I expect friends/family to follow basic wedding etiquette.

I would certainly hope that FMIL does not look like me on my wedding day but imo wearing white/cream any wedding is ridiculous.
It is common courtesy not to wear white or cream even as a "normal" guest but to be in all the bridal party photos in the same colour as the bride is just rude.

this is my opinion, you have yours

How rude!!

Everyone knows you don't wear white to a wedding I would include ivory in that, think it's just cheeky tbh. Although not sure how u can nicely tell her that

God being having nightmares about what my FMIL will do on our big day! I would have taught something like that would not bother me but when you mention the wedding photos I would change my opinion. I never taught about it like that. Anyway its your day so if it does bother you you should try sussing out ur FSIL. I hope it works out for you whatever you decide. As for the lady ranting on bout not understanding some brides everyone is entitled to an opinion but there's no need to be so bloody harsh If u'v nothing nice to 'say' then keep it to urself...

My MIL wore a cream suit, jacket & knee length skirt & to be honest I didn't even notice :eek My own mam wore a beautiful cream & green outfit, it was amazing. More people spoke about my mother's hat on that day than they did about my dress :o0 BUt I was on such a high everyone else could have been naked & I wouldn't have noticed!
