MOB underdressed?

MOB underdressed?

I'm a bit worried... My mum is at home in Australia and she bought her wedding outfit yesterday. I haven't seen it yet but she has described it as a mid blue chiffon top which she will wear with the black pants she wore to my sister's wedding. MOBs in Oz don't tend to get as dressed up as they do here, a nice dress or pants and a top is perfectly normal and acceptable. But I work in a hotel in Ireland and I have never seen a MOB in anything less than a gorgeous matching dress and jacket and a fascinator or hat.
Now, I don't mind if she wears the top and pants but I do mind if it gets to the day and she see's FMIL and all his aunts and suddenly feels terribly underdressed.
What do I do? Upset her now or risk it later?

Oh gosh I'd definitely tell her!!! I had a similar situation in that my FMIL is German and German women dress VERY casually even for weddings. Thankfully FMIL asked me herself what would be appropriate to wear so I didn't have to initiate the conversation myself :-8 . You don't want your mom to feel underdressed on such a big day. She can always wear the top and pants for other occasions but a nice dress is definitely called for as MOB!

I would tell her too. Say weddings are not as casual as they are in Oz. That most likely MIL will be in a lovely dress, jacket, hat etc and does she want to go for something similar as it would be the norm for MOB here, maybe show her some pics. My SIL isn't Irish and asked what she should wear to the wedding as she has never been to an Irish wedding. She was only delighted to hear she can go all out with a nice dress and hat as they aren't worn to weddings where she is from.

i'd tell her, at least then she'll be prepared & can decide what she wants to do herself. maybe show her a few photos of the kind of outfits that are the norm over here. if she did decide to change, she could always bring her existing outfit with her & wear it on one of the days before or after the wedding as i'm sure there will be plenty of socialising at that time!

Thanks girls. I sent her an email there and she's going to go and find herself a dress, though I doubt she will stretch to a hat or fascinator!
