Depression

To all the girls brave enough to speak about their experiences with depression big hugs to you all.

I hope this makes sense but I think that some people in this country need to see something physical for them to believe that you are ill so if you appear healthy on the outside then there simply couldn't be anything the matter with you. Its disgraceful that there is such a stigma attached to mental illness.

If anything at least this thread has highlighted the issue and the fact that no one wants to suffer from it. And i think that is a key word suffer.

Exercise is one of the best ways to recover from depression. Studies show that regular exercise can be as effective as antidepressant medication at increasing energy levels and decreasing feelings of fatigue.

Could I have a reference for these studies please? Exercise is very important but I would hardly say exercise alone is as effective as antidepressant medication! If that were the case we'd all be grand!

Going to the gym 3 times a week obviously wasn't enough to "cure" me from depression... note to self must go more often. :action34

Seriously, yes exercise can help but being as effective or more effective than anti-depressants?! Give me a break! People wonder why there's still such a rubbish attitude towards depression.... if only it was as bloody easy as exercise.

+1 for some people maybe it cures it, for a lot of people maybe it helps but for me it has taken a lot more than that to stay free from depression.

:action32 for you itsOK. I know how you are feeling. From the outside it looks like you have everything and you think you should be happy. If only it was that easy. Keep talking though and write things down here. Do anything that you think could help. :action32

Ah girls I'm in a really bad place at the minute with crap going on with my mother and sister but mainly my mother. Honestly I think if it wasn't for my baby growing inside mexi honestly would be in a heap at the moment. Right now Im between wanting to get locked, take syndol and make myself stupid drowsy, and cutting myself. I can't do any of these because of the baby and I'm going around in a trance like state for the last week. The only people I've had conversations with have been hubby, mil, my dad and the delivery guy bringing me my shopping. I had a strained conversation with my sister at the start of the week. Hubby told me to ring my psychologist tomorrow but I don't really want to be disturbing him on a Sunday, I'm not due to go to him til next Saturday but maybe I need to go sooner.. Talking to my mother is not really am option because I am made feel like everything is my fault, for example today she started saying I always got what I wanted and the example she gave when I asked was a mobile phone as a "santy" Present 10 yes ago when I was 14.. I honestly don't know what to do, I had discussed the issue with the shrink last week and when I told her today what he had said she rang me an hour later and said she doesn't think he's any good for me. I was absolutely flabbergasted as before today when I told her that he had agreed with me, she thought he was doing great for me (and he is). I'm so sorry for the essay. I might edit it later so pls don't quote. Oh I'm not a new user of this thread I just changed my name recently

Hi Wollies, I have been told I need to see a Psychologist. I see a counsellor every week but just feel I'm not really going anywhere with her. Can anyone recommend a psychologist in the Dublin area? I know they are really pricey, was told between 100 - 150euro for an hour. Is this true? I could never afford this on a weekly basis!
