Is there any Finnstown house Brides to B

I am unable to decide what to do for the best with the resent news of Finnstown House going into receivership. We got it in writing from Finnstown House that they where not in any financial difficulty and then went into receivership week later. I was wondering if there are any brides out there that are getting married there and still going ahead with it.

Hi there, have you put down your deposit yet? We have our deposit down with them already. We are getting married there next year. I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. I don't know what to do either. They are saying that the business will be run as normal but surely the receivership has to have some impact?? As far as I know the receiver is acting in the banks interest...i.e. recoup as much money as they can to repay the loans. Does that mean they will cut costs etc? Also, I am concerned that any couples that were considering Finnstown as a venue will not proceed with putting down deposits now and that will impact on the business aswell.

They are due to send out letters to all couples who have deposits with them. We rang them yesterday...we were very disappointed to read about the receivership in the media rather than hear from the hotel directly. It's stress we don't need. Any other Finnstown brides out there?

hi i called the reciever directly last night and he said the same they are bringing a manger to bulid up citywest and Finnstown to try make as much money as possible. we are also booked for next year with depoist paid, Before i made my payment i got in in writing from Finnstown that they where a stable business and making a profit so i paid the deposit. so they lied on this front which makes me nervous i also have the same concerns as yours self no one is going to book there wedding there now so they will not be making money >:o(

I can give you the name and number of the reciever to call him as he is taking a look at my list of concerns and coming back to me

Hi again, I think Finnstown itself may be a profitable business...the problem is that they are part of what seems to be a very complex group structure. Mansfield owes Bank of Scotland €180m and I think this debt is now spread all through the group using inter-company loans etc. I think that's one of the things the receiver will have to look at and figure out.

I was sure that Finnstown were rock solid and was happy to pay a deposit....I can't believe it now. Dalata is the hotel operating company that have been put in place to run Finnstown. I googled them and they are Maldron hotels...I would have thought they would be classed as a 'quality hotel' so my concern is that they will cut costs and drive efficiencies that won't necessarily be good for us.

I'm not sure what to do...forfeit my deposit and go somewhere else but the same thing could happen....just don't know how comfortable I feel paying them out thousands more.

If you have the number of the receiver that would be great....I will definitely give him a call. Thanks

I am feeling the same way as you as there are so many places in trouble i just can not afford to take a risk and let this happen again by forefitting the deposit and going else where. I am a Finnstown Bride for next year!!! Was very upset when i heard the news!! Hope that letter arrives soon. In the event that ppl would like to go elsewhere as far as I know you may actually be entitled to your deposit back under the Credit Act if it was paid via credit card or laser (not cash) if you can state that you will not receive the same level of service quality that we all expected to receive for the high price we were paying!!

I was quite upset also to see that they were offering packages of €55.00 - I paid €85.00 for mine and there doesn't seem to be any difference between them...

however I've been told that there shouldn't be any major changes...if you can believe that ...however if you did swap hotels there is no guarantee that this won't happen to another hotel...and a saving grace is that Finnstown has operated for a very long time...and has a fantastic reputation..however I can see your reservations as I have the same ...

I think I might ring the receiver too!!

What did the receiver say?

My wedding is in a few weeks, they rang to say everything ok and a letter is on the way but have arranged to go and meet with them next week.

Hi there,

The receiver said nothing is going to change in the next few months the only thing that will change is there is a new manager has been appointed from the bank. I that if your wedding is in a few months everything should go to plan for you.
If you could lets us know what they say to you when you meet as our wedding are not till next year,

Hi Girls,

Have spoken to some people for opinions on this, not legal people,just people involved in Hotels and some accountants, to be honest most people have told me to get my money back and run for my life!! I dont really want to do this as i love Finnstown House and want to get married there. We're going to wait and see what the letter states. Question is do we stay and take a chance or leave, book elsewhere, only for Finnstown to still be up and running next year.... Grrr... O:|

Lots of questions! Too many in fact!
Am worried about what the receiver has said - "The receiver said nothing is going to change in the next few months" - So what does that mean for us getting married next year? Guess we'll have to wait for this letter and make up our own minds then.

Hi there,

What date are you getting Married? You wont get your Money until the venue is taken over as it stands your deposit is gone. I am not till Oct you see my plan is to stick for now have regular visit to the venue, as many other hotels are going the same way and you could then loose another deposit i am sure none of us are in the position where we can do this.
my first reaction was to run but my fear is loosing more money think of it this way everything else you book can move with you entertainment etc........... so you will always get a venue some where look at other places for now know all the good ones and then move if necessary.

If you decide to move as I was going let me know if you get your money as they said on the day it went into receivership I could get my money and then said no!!!!!!!!!! the next day we had murder with them I was so upset my finance and all got on the phone and he is not one for that.

So just work out your time as I would hate to see it happen again
