Household Charge???

Household Charge???

Postby b2bJune2012 » Wed Feb 15, 2022 10:16 pm

So the date is nearing for this payment to be made.... >:o(

Just a wonder who out there has paid this, will be paying this or has no intention of paying?? TMI

What are the consequences of not paying? :eek

We are still bouncing back and forth on this issue and can't decide what to do, apparently one of the groups against the payment are saying that you can't be penalised for not making the payment as it's not in the constitution??

The household charge payment is two options, pay all in one go, or pay by quartly installments, the date for payment is 31st march Im def not paying have no Intention of paying.

What are the consequences of not paying?

if someone didn,t pay for the while year, an extra €42 applies a fine.

Its worth noting nearly two weeks ago at the start of february the figures paying and registering was less then five per cent.

96 Percent of Households Fail to Register for New Property Tax

two weeks later it remains the same less then five per cent.

Over 95% haven't registered for household charge

I reckon this is going to happen on the 31st as well.

I haven't paid it yet but I think I am going to pay it.

Our housing development is technically unfinished as plans weren't finished although no empty houses so we don't have to pay it.... O:o)

My sister tried calling them up about not having to pay and they just gave a really generic answer which neither stated that you would get in trouble or not, and just keep repeating it and saying this is our official response... >:o(

So not sure what to think of it......

Don't think we would pay it if we had to as no one we know seems to be paying for it and don't they can take everyone to court, can they? >:o)

8% registered at the end of February, so just to calculate- it was 5% the end of January, its now 8% the end of February, so that means for the whole of month of February, just an extra 3% registered - not looking good foe the goverment-another point, we don,t know how many out of those who registered have actually paid, and how many just registered to claim their excemption.

Even if you are in a position to pay this now, ask yourself this

1. Will I still have this job Im in this time next year?

2. What new tax will they pass in the next budget even if I can afford it now?

3,Will I still have the same wages/salary this time next year providing my wages/salary don,t get cut and reduced?

4. When I am in my old age, will I be able to pay all these new taxes on my home when I am relying on my pension?

5, And finally if I can afford a household tax of €100 at the present moment, would I be able to afford to a full property tax combined with water charges at over €1000?

There is no consideration of ability to pay with the household tax, no consideration is taken into account of those on unemployment benifits, disabilty benifits, old age pension, negative equity,

Make no mistake, any of these new charges/taxes/whatever they call them, will not go away once the current crisis ends (if it ever will) so the time to act is now

Won't be paying it. Living in an unfinished estate. But even if I wasn't, I wouldn't be paying it anyway.

Read an interesting publication recently from McCann Fitzgerald Solicitors, about how it is legally a voluntary payment - that's why the government are asking people to register and pay themselves, instead of taking the payment from people at source. If I can find the article I'll post it on here.

Curious to see what action will actually be taken for those who don't pay. The numbers will be too great I think for the government to realistically enforce any action.

Will just have to wait it out and see :-8

Also remember don,t register either, while your estate may be unfinished now, once its finished you will be asked to pay the household tax.

Sadly, McCann Fitzgerald have now confirmed that they did not issue that letter and are investigating why it has their name on it.
