washing curtains??

can u wash curtains urself r do they hav 2 b drycleaned?? our bedroom ones hav gotton filty, dont want 2 fork out 4 drycleaning if it doesnt clean them, there is a bit of mildew on them aswel... dont no if it wil come out even wit drycleaning!

I'd say it'd depend on the material in them really.

I have washed many a curtain in the washing machine, all turned out fine. Wouldn't chance it if they are silk or anything else very delicate but all others should be be no problem.

hey girls thanks 4 the replys, the curtains r just ur average curtain, no delicate materials. im going to chance washing them in the morn and hope 4 the best :)

If you want to get the mildew stains out then mix salt and lemon juice and rub it well into the stained area before washing as normal in the machine. Make sure they're bone dry before you put them back up to try and prevent it coming back. HTH :)

Washing Curtains and cushains is my plan for all next week. I've 3 different pairs that can all be doing with a small freshen up. Ill wash them on a low silk wash and hopefully get them them on the line for the day and then air them for a few days till they are bone dry.(What an exciting life i lead :o0 )

I have two sets of curtains hanging off the stairways. I just wash them at 30 degrees and they have come out perfect.

I need to get mine dry cleaned but the cleaner wanted €80.00 for them. They are not dirty but just need to be freshen up, I was thinking of taken them down and putting them on the line for the day, if that doesn't work might try a cold wash in the washing machine,
