Paying for register to intent

Paying for register to intent

Postby LaurenLou » Wed May 09, 2022 8:47 am

We're registering our intent to marry on Friday, and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what forms of payment they accept? We're registering in Lombard St. in Dublin, should we arrange a bank draft or postal order, or will they take cash or laser?

Thanks!

Hi,
When we registered we paid with cash but they also accepted personal cheques/bank drafts. As far as i know they don't accept cards. :wv

I think its cash or cheques, didn't do it in that office but nearly sure they didn't take cards in the one we went to.

We did it a few weeks ago, paying by card was an option but we had cash on us, if in doubt you can always ring, they are very helpful :)

Thanks everyone! Laser it is so :-)

Think we have to pay about €240 though not €150, our registrar in Tipperary has added her travel expenses to the registrars agreement. I'm assuming that we will have to pay that at our appointment too on Friday, does anyone know?

And yes €150 for 15min appointment to get a piece of paper to say we can marry is crazy!! It should at least be tax deductible :)

But that's the cost to everyone of getting married surely? Anything outside it is an optional extra. We married in a five minute ceremony and that was all we needed, we were no less married than anyone else. We then chose to have a big, more traditional day, a week later, but we didn't need to do that, it was a choice. In Ireland no one has to spend more than 150 quid on getting married, if you chose to have a big church wedding or a humanist wedding, no one's forcing you to! When you pay the 150 euro, that covers the civil ceremony cost in the registry office, there's not another cost for that, so if you chose not to avail of that service of course you don't get a discount.

I actually don't mind paying our registrars travel exepnses at all! We have decided to get married in our reception venue rather than the registry office, so its fair enough that we should pay for the registrar to travel.

I just think that €150 is pretty expensive to register your intent, regardless of where you are getting married, church or civil.

Everyone will pay it, they have no choice if they want to be married, including me. I'm just venting my annoyance at the cost.
