have just found this thread and spent half hour going through it, some people give awful sugar.
we got mostly cash but we did get a few strange ones... a slow cooker?? i make dinner that takes half an hour never mind 9 hour vegetable soup!!
and a tea set that is in Harvey norman for €20.... from a couple....
another cousin who we had given 250 to for her wedding gave us a slate clock...not even a fancy one, there was no question about the quality of this one. it was like one kids make in school.
also got 6 sets of the same galway crystal glassses...

Oh my god I love my slow cooker!! Didn't get it at first but then I made a stew one day- never tasted one like it, slow cooking makes the meat so tender!! You could put it on at night before you go to bed and you've a fab easy dinner for the next day. Wouldn't use it for soup or anything like that.

Have to agree about the slow cooker - I got one when we bought our house .Brilliant for the really really cold days. Prepare the night before (literally throw everything in with some water) turn it going out the door to work, arrive home and the dinner is cooked! Amazing! Couldn't live without it during the winter!

Great for bolognase (sp) too!

I received an invitation to a wedding that had a handwritten note in it on a random piece of paper saying "we would like gift vouchers for argos or money only- no other gifts". For a while I thought it was just in our invitation and then I realised that it was in everyones- how rude!

god! reading this does not instill much cofidence in me,(im getting married next year).
However,as bad as some of these stories are what im about to tell you has to take the cake and the p*ss me thinks!!!
My sister-in-law got married a few years ago and his granny, gave them...................50 euro in a card!!!!! And thats not even the best part, one of his aunties is living at home and the card with the 50 quid was from both of them!!!!!? And before anyone says it, no they aren't broke, they are just complete and utter SCABS,that may sound harsh but it's the truth.

What is it with some people, you might not mind so much if it was a far out friend or relative but your freaking granny and auntie, that is just rude i think, that 50 euro wouldn't even cover the cost of the meal! O:|

well, seeing as no one else has said this to you, i think you sound incredibly selfish.

Poor granny doesnt put the going rate into her card, and you think its mean ?
For the love of god women, you make the wedding sound like a business transaction.
Gifts are not given to equate to the cost of the meal. Its a wedding, you are the host and you kindly invite people as a GUEST.

iD love to skip forward in time, until you are collecting your pension every week and see how much you would put in a card.

Please get your priorities right before you turn into a mad woman.

Scabs my arse...

+1,000,000

My Granny "only" gave me £50, and I wasn't expecting anything, that's 80% her pension for the week.

I've said it here before, and I'll say it again - peoples circumstances are different. They may seem like they should have lots of disposable income but you never know whether they have debt, a high mortgage, in NE, saving for IVF, Credit card debt, gambling, illness etc.

No-one tells everyone every circumstance.

And if you look back through the thread, I mentioned my OHs Aunt and Uncle, you brought their 5 (uninvited) grown adult children (2 brought their partners - so SEVEN extra people) to our wedding and together they gave £20 in a card. That annoyed me and was scabby, but if it had of been OHs aunt and uncle alone who came, I wouldn't have been fussed. Just before anyone plays the hypocrite card.

I was going to post yesterday to this, but when I saw your reply to Fizzigigg, I laughed that much I logged off.

Agree 100%! Unfortunately both my grandmothers past away. but at my brothers wedding he didnt even expect anything off our nana. Nor would I. And neither h2b or myself expect anything off his grandad. they are family, we love them and all we want is for them to share the day with us. We don't expect anything off any of my close family. We just want them there with us on such a special day!

+1 to the above. I would have so loved any of my grandparents to be at my wedding (I'm actually tearing up :-8 ). I'm so envious of my cousins whose weddings they attended

i know the entire thread is supposed to be funny, and i have laughed at some of the presents people got ;o).
Overall though, newlyweds complaining about cash they did'nt and did receive is distasteful to say the least.

My nana didnt give me anything but i dont care. I was glad she was there. only wish the others were still around.

discussing the amt of cash each person gave is terrible. my mother starting asking who gave what and I told her to mind her own business.
