What was the worst wedding present you got?

Re: What was the worst wedding present you got?

We got lovely presents and I am grateful for them all. I'm sure that some of our guests didn't give us anything but it honestly doesn't bother me, having our guests there was the most important thing to us. Funnily enough my least favourite present was an expensive and lovely Waterford Crystal decanter, because the person who gave it to us gifted it without any thought of us as a couple. It is lovely but we will never use it and I would have preferred if he had given us a less expensive but more thoughtful gift.

the last time i checked this thread was about worst wedding gifts, not about anyone needing to check priorities and such. And anyone who is very close to certain relatives and who has done a lot for them over the years can not possibly state that if they were to receive a very unthoughtful effortless gift for the most important day of their adult life that they wouldn't be a bit disappointed or even slightly insulted.
I'v actually read worse posts on this thread then my own so i think people need to lighten up, these forums are meant to be fun and tongue in cheek and if some wollies would actually read posts properly they will see that it may not be the poster that was giving out about certain wedding gifts but in fact there BIL & other family members.Get your facts straight before you post comment.

not everything has to be turned into a big serious deal ladies, lifes too short to be that serious all the time!
Lighten up!
Happy Hallowe'en :wv

I shall kindly remind you honeyd, that it was your lauguage and tone that brought down a rather fun thread.. scabs, isnt that the word you used ?
All because someone didnt cover the cost of their meal...I think you have missed the point.

And we are all perfectly lightened up, thanks.

worst present on the basis on it being absolutely useless was a belleek pottery statue of the virgin mary and a holy water font, from hubbys cousin who got married 8months after us, and they are our age. i wanted to re gift the gift back to them but bottled out at the last min, we'd already received our quota of holy gifts from hubbys aunt who is a nun and that we appreciated, but holy moly such a waste. its now sitting in the cupboard waiting for someone unfortunate enough to receive it. lol

OMG coolkeevs!! I really hope we don't get presents like that! I don't feel giving something like that is a great idea. I think if at all possible people should stay away from personal items if you don't know the couple very well to know that they will not like it! I am certainly not one for clutter (my word for anything that takes up space without a purpose..to the point my niece infomred me my house is bare :o0 ) and hate gifts like that!! I think it's time Ireland adopted gift lists without it being so taboo!!!! O:|

We got a set of tiny porcelain bag thing with clogs from Amsterdam and you know what I really like it. It was quite a strange wedding present but I admire it every day and kill the kids when I catch them playing with the clogs :o0

Hope nobody minds me bumping this, just wanted to say thanks to all the posters for cheering me up on a crap day - the tears are literally running down my face laughing at all these, sure it's only a bit of fun - god love the people who put the coins in the cards, I'd feel so bad at the thoughts of them putting their last few quid in a card for us!

We were overwhelmed by the generosity of people at our engagement - I never realised that people gave engagement presents at all. We got a beautiful set of glasses, some Newbridge, frames, a gorgeous clock, and cash, and all was very much appreciated - I was embarrassed at how good some people were.

I'm still laughing at "it wasn't even a saint you'd recognise", funniest thing I've ever read on this site :o0 :o0 :o0 :o0 :o0

Love this thread, it's HILARIOUS!

Our worst present was a set of waterford crystal wine glasses, sounds okay so far BUT they had been used and not washed so there was red wine at the bottom of them! I still laugh when I think about it!

We got a very large (and I would imagine very expensive), Genesis stature of a blacksmith fixing the shoe on a horse.

Random.
