DB - what weight was Isabelle when she was born?
I'm a bit worried about Risn because she's still not back up to her birth weight but the PHN is calling tomorrow so I'll have a chat with her then.
Also - ladies who are bottle feeding - how much are your lo's taking per feed? the PHN said she should be taking at least 4 oz per feed but I can't seem to get her passed 3oz and I think thats the reason why she's not gaining so much.
I've her on Cow & Gate Level 1 and don't want to switch until I'm told to.
She's doing great with sleeping at night, still going down for about 4 hours at a time but by god is she awake during the day - as in from about 10.30 am to about 7pm with only 1 or 2 hours sleep in between.
I'm absolutely shattered tired and tbh finding it a bit difficult to say the least. Thank god my mom didn't go on her hols as planned and stayed around a bit longer. I don't think I'd have coped tbh.

Contented, Isabelle was 7lbs 15oz when she was born, apparently a lb a week is "normal" enough for a bottle fed baby. I have her on the SMA Gold and she's great on it. She never takes 4oz in one go though, usually 3oz and then 1-2oz about 30mins later!! She goes through about 6-8 5oz bottles in 24hrs. She sleeps alot during the day but Im noticing everyday she's awake more!!
I have to say finding it great and a real help being in my mams as Ive help throughout the day and only really have to think about looking after Isabelle. Dont think Id cope at home alone just yet either, especially feeling so weak!!
First time over heremeant to join start of the week but i had a very bad week with Ruaidhri. i have been reading your post s and so glad i'm not the only one who has been very emotional. Ruaidri is 2 weeks old today and weights 9lb11ozs up 9oz since his birth... and i have been bf'ing and finding it very difficult, have cracked and bruised nipples ( he actually took skin fromthem)very sore when he latches on and also on my right nipple very tender . i have expressed but not alot comes out as he is constantly hungry i could feed him for 40mins and 10mins later he wantsmore and could feed for another 40mins. it was taking me 2hrs to1.5hrs at the start to feed but not down to 30-40mins he is a big baby and does not sleep from about 3pm to 1am totally exhausted will constantly feed for these hours . i was crying the other day andlast night. we gave in and gave him ready made bottles for the last three nights just one bottle and he slept for 5 hours after.today i gave him a bottle at 8pm as nipples toosore and decided he will get anothertonight and try and bf'd in between ifneeds be. i was debating putting him on the bottles but not sure how the weening process works?
redwifey you have been down that road how do you do it??
hope you are feeling better i can understand now why people bottle feed, buy dummy's and get post natal depression. its such a big shock to the system.
sorry about my moan but at a loose end and just don't know what to do.
Hi girls, just a quick first post. Didn't get to read any of your posts.
I have been so busy with D-M and breastfeeding.. feeding on demand..
I haven't been well myself- Only beginning to get my energy back now. Lot of old illnesses hitting me and PHN a bit worried I might get PND.
Hope to be on soon. great to see the thread up and running.
Oh yaaaay, I'm finally in M&K, thought I'd never get here.
Posted in P&B also that our little girl Eabha arrived on Weds a week overdue weighing 6lbs 11oz.
Got out of hospital yesterday morning and had a great night last nite thank god.
So now the fun begins! Am BF'ing at the moment, all seems to be going ok but it's hard to know if you're doing it right or if baby's getting enough or what. Suppose just have to wait and see.
Anyway just wanted to post here officially...looking forward to swapping stories with you all soon xx

Hi girls, great to see you all here.
MrsE - I really feel for you. BF'ing is tough going alright. I found it really hard and it was beginning to get me down and I wasn't enjoying it as I thought I would so in the end we decided to put him on formula. It was the best thing we did. Though I did get good advice from one of the nurses when I was starting BF'ing - to say to myself that I would stick with it for x number of weeks before deciding to give it up in order to give it a chance - so I had in my head that I would give it a month anyway and see at that stage. In the end I lasted 6 weeks but it was really beginning to get me down towards the end.
In order to wean him, I just introduced a bottle of formula in place of one of his BF and then every 3 or 4 days I would introduce another one and so on until he was on full formula. We are using Aptimil and have no problems.
If it it something you really want to do though I would advise you to stick with it as it will get easier but don't put yourself under pressure to do it.
PM me anytime you want advice/support etc. You are doing fantastic, the first 6 weeks are hard but it does get better, I promise
Hi everyone - great to be over here on M+K ... never thought I'd see the day - it's brilliant.
Looking forward to sharing lots of tips, rants and support in the coming months.
All's going great with me and babe ............ well - all was going great - except my MIL is here for a few days and SHE'S DRIVING ME MAD .... but all I can do is count to 10 and grin and bear it AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
There's nothing worse than people thinking they're helping but in fact they're making life more difficult ... am just about hanging on to my sanity. IT'S ONLY 2 DAYS / IT'S ONLY 2 DAYS. Love is ... putting on an oscar performance for my DH when my MIL is in town!!!!!!!!
Ok - rant over - feel better already :-)
Will be back soon when all's back to normal here.
Hope you're all doing well and coping with the lack of sleep.

Hey Girls,
Its so lovely to see this thread grow cos i have a million questions worries a day and it will be great to start sharing all over again as we did during the pg. Its lovely to hear that others are bf'ing, exhausted recovering after the labours and to know we are not alone.
Take care june '09 mammies and Laura hang in there
Ah this is great, haven't been on in a few days. I'll catch up on everyone's news in a bit.
Just to give ya an update, I was really down and so so sore but put it all down to recoving from labour. I found it really hard to walk and couldn't stand at all. Have only been out for one little walk once in the two weeks since Olivia was born. Girls, I was so emotional that I couldn't look after her properly and was terrified I was getting depressed. Anyways, things were getting worse down there so went to doc on Thursday, he diagnosed a bladder infection and said my pelvic bone was probably all bruised from the forceps which was cauing the problems with the walking. Couldn't even sit. So he gave me antibiotics and strong pain killers. Then on friday I felt something come out of me when I stood up. Well I nearly died, felt like my insides had come away. Had to get DH to look as I was terrified. It was a big clot, size of a golf ball. Rang hospital so they said to come in. So on top of bladder infection I have an infection in my womb so they gave me more antibiotics on top of the others and girls I cant tell you how much better i'm feeling. So relieved, I can walk and look after my angel!
Olivia is doing great, she had problems with constipation, had to give her prune juice!! That seems to be working. She takes on average 3-4oz a go, sometimes more sometimes less, but she tends to go every four hours. Really enjoying her now. We had my brothers wedding yesterday and she was with us as we were staying in the hotel, she was as good as gold. My MIL just came to the hotel for a couple of hours so we could have the meal so it worked out great.
Right i'll go catch up on all your news. Hope everyone is doing well, so glad we can continue on our chats, would be lost without you all
Right i'm all caught up, great to see everyone is doing so well and the babies are growing! We got her weighed last monday and she had put on half a pound so nearly back to her birth weight which PHN said was perfect, I reakon she's put lots more on now since, as she's starting to fill out.
MrsE, hope you are ok, sounds like the BF is rough on you. In one way i'm sad i couldn't BF but in another its so great that DH can help out!
FF, i'm the same as you, DH back to work tomorrow and is on a week of nights, we're both dreading him going back. Will just have to sleep when babs sleeps and see how we get on. At least he'll be around during the day but it'll be hard to get the right balance so that he gets a good rest to be able for working and also we get some sleep!
Redwifey and DB, glad you are both feeling better this week. I had posted last week also about being so emotional, its just a very overwhelming experience to have a baby isn't it. Here's this little person who is now completely dependant on you, and nothing else is important anymore.
I must think about getting her into a routine, no idea where to start. Every day she changes her pattern. She goes from a 9,1,5 routine to the 7,11,3 one. But sure she's only two weeks so we'll work on that.
Sorry i'm sure i've missed loads of you but getting tired now. Oh I was 30 yesterday too!!! Little miss was due to wake at 10 and still waiting on her to wake up, she's starting to grunt there now so hopefully won't be too much longer. I can't take my tablets till after I've fed her as they make ya drowsy.
Great to see more people coming over!! Like BamBam hope this thread is even half as busy as our P&B thread dunno what Id do without it!!
Feeling much better on the iron tablets and the dizzy tablets so hope to head home to our own place this weekend!! Had a few drinks last night and OMG my head was banging this morning!! Had a couple after the match last week but think it was too much last night in too short a space of time!!
How is everyone getting on?? Has everyone had their babs off the June thread yet?? I think we have??
BamBam I had 2 of those clots and they scared the living daylights out of me!! Thank God havent had one in over a week, even though Im STILL bleeding - becoming a pain in the neck TBH!! Good to hear the tablets and pain killers are making you feel better though!! Think my pelvis is still bruised from the forceps as well when Im doing my pelvic floor exercises I can feel it and if I walk too far I feel it too - the recovery is way worse than the labour if ya ask me!!
OMG girls, I do nosey on the June thread on Rollercoaster here and there never post just read and there is a girl who's DS had complications when born and died on Friday - I cannot get it out of my head since reading it earlier!! Cannot imagine what she is going through! My heart goes out to them.
On a better note Isabelle is doing amazing and is thriving thank God!! She is getting soo alert and following voices and giving out little smiles!! Cant believe she's a month old this week coming!!
Hope your all keeping well and everyone is getting on great with their babs!!
My 1st post in Mums and Kids
Still cant believe I am a Mammy, its great..... and I love it, wonder what I did with my time - before she was born..
I am going to post my birth story in the next couple of days - I want to type it up in word 1st so i can keep an copy and then I will post here.
This week is my 1st week alone (during the day) with my DD, so it should be fun and interesting.. chat soon girls..
Haven't been on in ages, just so busy these days. Cal is doing great, he was 3 wks on Friday and got weighed, he's gone from 8lb 4oz to 9lb 3oz so i was delighted.
I'm bf and it was all going extremely well with him feeding every 3-4 hrs but since today, things have gone pear shaped. I started expressing a few days ago and gave him a soother because he was using my nipples to comfort him and now I think that he's confused because when he latches on, he keeps slipping and just sucking on the nipples, making me sore...I don't know how long I'll keep going but I wasn't planning on stopping yet because I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would.
Apart from the tiredness I feel great today, the SPD has finally gone and I'm off my painkillers. Today I went for a short walk, the first walk I've been able to do since i was 16 wks pregnant. Girls, i was nearly crying because I could walk without being in pain, I know I sound like a drama queen but it's been a long time.
The first wk was really tough for me because DH works for himself and things had been so slow but then a job came up so he had to take it so he could only take off the days I was in hosp and 1 day when i came home. That was so hard for him too because he was looking forward to spending the time with us but he had no choice. Thank God for mothers, I would have been lost without my mam and dad to be honest because as well as recovering from the section, I still had the SPD to deal with.
Anyway sorry about the long post, everyone seems to be doing great, sometimes I still pinch myself because i can't believe he is here. Looking forward to sharing all my worries and questions with you all as our LO grow...
Hi girls,
I haven't posted here in a while but i have been reading all your posts! Well done to all the Mammies so far. Being a Mammy is rewarding and hard work! Got dd weighed last thursday and she had gained a lb and 7oz from the previous weigh which was two weeks ago!! She weighed in at 8lbs. Her birthweight was 6lbs 2oz and she lost just under 10 percent of that before leaving hospital so she is making progress and the bfing is going well.
Take care of yourselves
