HI I've got about 2 stone to lose for my wedding in late October. I'm very active but my problem is food. I can go 2 or 3 days eating very healthily then I have a crappy day in work, the wine comes out and next thing I've wolfed down an extra huge packet of crisps, chocolate etc etc. I"m like a bottomless pit. So after a week and a weekend of complete and utter over indulgence I"m starting a fresh today!!!. I"m actually sick of this feeling of guilt. I want to start something that I will stick to. So I've downloaded a weight watchers app. I plan on following the 29 points allowance but I'm not 100 % if this is right. Can anyone in weight watchers verify this for me? My sister did the new Pro Points last year so I plan on getting the books off her, so I should be a little more clued in when I read through them. I've been to WW before, lost some weight, paid a lot of money and left. So due to restricted finances I'm not joining a group, I really hope to be able to do it myself. I like having the 49 points should I want to eat out etc etc. Anyone give me any advice regarding the new system? I'm fairly active, do kettlebell classes 3 times a week, bodypump x 1. During my lunches in work I normally get in a 30 min walk too. So I really enjoy exercise but its definitely food thats my major downfall. I rely on it too much. I"m such an emotional eater. Happy? Lets eat. Sad? Lets eat. Indifferent? Lets eat!! Anyway any advice from those who have succeeded, or those embarking on a new regime, would be greatly appreciated! I'm off now for a hike with the h2b and the dog. Try and walk that chinese off I had last night . AAAhhh Right, New Day - New Me!!

For me the big thing is portions - I weigh everything I eat including meat, pasta, rice etc...you'd be surprised how much you're overeating when you use your eyes - I know it always doesn't look enough and I throw a load more in 'just in case'. I'm an emotional eater too - any excuse and I'm eating! I have my 'cheat' snacks...Tayto Velvet Cruch (2pp), Curly Whirly's (3pp), Carte Dorte low fat ice-cream (2pp for 2 scoops - delicious with strawberries, even OH loves it!). These really help me feel like I'm not denying myself literally everything!!
Other than that my one big thing is (and I know a lot of people will disagree) on the night that I've been weighed I get something bold. I know there's the argument that you shouldn't reward yourself with the one thing that you're trying to give up, but again it comes down to not feeling like I've given up everything that's nice!!
If you're not going to the classes (totally understand, so expensive) then pick a day of the week (I find Thursday the best)...and only weigh yourself on that day. Don't weigh any other day - it's very hard!!
Good luck!

Thanks stupidname2013 . Yeah I'm cottoning on to the portions thing too. Today I've started as I am tracking. So I got out the scales and I nearly laughed at the portion of bran flakes that equalled 30g!! But I've tracked all day and religiously weight things. I have dinner left and 9 points. I did over 3 hours of excercise today, but I don't plan on using my exercise points at all. I never did when I was in WW before, so I'm not going to now. Unless weight isn't shifting I think I'll be ok not to . Will have to give it a few weeks before I know. Weighed out my wholewheat pasta, and again, nearly laughed at the pitiful portion that lay before me. God I"ve been eating huge portions!! Have to say, loving this app I got off the android market. Makes it very easy. And as I live with my phone in my hand practically 24/7 , its ideal for me. Yeah I used to have a 'naughty' meal on my weigh in day too when I did it before. I joined with my friend back then and we pretty much lost the same weight each week even though she never did a 'cheat' meal. I've started today so I'm thinking that that makes Monday's my weigh in day? Or maybe Sunday - which isn't too bad. Cuz I do like to kind of kick back of a Sunday with some nice food and maybe wine with the OH. So it might work out well to have it then. Having said that I plan on giving up alcohol at least for a couple of weeks, to try and give myself a good start. I did the shop online today, so I've stocked up on all the stuff they reckon you should have. I plan on making a nice spicy lentil soup which will do for lunch a couple of days, got a pasta chicken dish planned for lunches too, and tbh my dinners before were pretty healthy, I've just got to make sure and get the portions right. So i reckon I'll be ok food wise this week. So are all fruit and veggies free? Like for example today, I was kind of surprised at how quickly my points got eaten up, literally. I had bran flakes for breakfast, 2 oatcakes with jam and peanut butter for mid morning snack after my hike (had to sit through the OH hopping off a quarter pounder with cheese) and I was left with 8 or 9 points for dinner . So if fruit and veggies are FREE, then during the week I''ll certainly be packing them to snack on!!

Yeah my dad wanted to lose weight and he thought he was eating about 50g special k...turns out it was over 100g...he nearly cried when I weighed out the 30g!! I have a scales in our apartment in Dublin and one in my parents house. I've been very bad lately but I was reading your thread earlier and decided tomorrow's the day (today was already a right off!). You do so much exercise, you'll be grand. Just be careful not to do too much though coz you're body will thing it's in starvation mode and not let go of the fat!! I tend to eat a dry piece of wholegrain toast before exercising (don't point it) but it's less than the points I earn but don't use so it's probably the same...to be honest, I'm on the toning up stage really. A year the to wedding but I won't even contemplate seeing myself in a wedding dress until I'm happy with myself!! Sounds like you're off to a good start!! Thanks for motivating me too! When I was typing my earlier message, I realised it's not as hard as I think it is, just about choices!! Eh yeah fruit and veg are basically free. Not peas though (my favorite). I'll try find my book later and PM ya a list of the veggie's that aren't. 9 points for dinner - I'd probably go 50g pasta (5pp), 100g dolmio (1), balsamic vinegar/worchester sauce (free - if you use only a little), and 60g lean mince (3pp). Lovely and you get used to the portions really quickly. Try avoid oil and butter if you can - feels like wasted points to me, although I love both! I also like fahitas made with dry seasoning and the tesco healthy living (or whatever it's called now) small wraps. You can adapt!!

thanks stupidname, that idea for the 9 point dinner sounds delish! I didn't have any mince though, but made myself some pasta with loads of fresh tomatoes and some store bought sauce.
Today was good. I did find though that i was very hungry just before my dinner. And I was working with half empty kitchen (until tesco arrives!) but still managed to keep in and around my points. Had bran flakes with soya milk for brekkie A babybel and an apple for elevenses. A Cully&Sully chicken and veg soup (6 pts) with 1 banana At 4 I had 5 almonds Then dinner (which I didn't actually plan for) had 1 pitta with 2 eggs, 4 turkey rashers, and 2 tablespoons of beans Went over my daily allowance by 1 point. But I got in 1 hour walking today so I'm happy enough. I've set my app to take the points I go over with from my weekly 49 point allowance first so I've still 45 of those left. Hoping to keep within range over the next few days. Feeling pretty crappy tonight though so I didn't go to my normal kettlebell class.
Got the books from my sister and there's loads of idea for recipes, and menu planners. I love how fruit and veg is free. That banana saved me today, think I would have been starving otherwise.
Only problem is I normally eat at night, so its now half 7 and i'm pretty stuffed from dinner still, hopefully it lasts right till beddy boys!
How did you get on today stupidname, did you start back today?

Unfortunately no - I've an excuse, had to go to the doctor today with a throat ulcer so I ended up bored alone for the day - that's when I'm at my worst!! Home again tomorrow, already had made the decision to go back to WW on Thursday so definitely have to do that now!! Plus no gym today, very pee'd off!! I find the best thing to stop me from snacking in the evening is to do some housework, washing up, clothes etc...keeps my mind ticking over...that and WOL! Banana's are the best for keeping the hunger pains at bay!! Keep up the good work - try keep your weekly points for the weekend - that's when I always use mine Oh also a tip for you - for dinners out etc, stay clear of Indian if you can - I always try steer my friend's towards Thai, seems to be the best!! Luckily it's my favourite cuisine and most of my friend's too!

Wow, well done ryana2, sounds like you are doing great! My tips are get himself involved in healthy eating. It can be very hard to do yourself esp when you are eating meals with someone else. Make sure you plan all you days in advance. I find I eat crap food when I am unprepared and have to grab something quick. Don't buy any junk food or have any in the house. The only crap we have in our house are mint chocolate and nutella. I hate both but himself eats them so he is happy. If someone is coming over I will grab something just before and send them off with the leftovers. Try not go into shops other that weekly shopping. Too tempting to grab a packet of tayto or bar of chocolate. Don't carry change if you work near vending machines. Way too tempting! Pop corn is a great filler in the evening and good to munch on watching tv. Brush your teeth after supper so you will be less tempted to start eating junk in the evening.

yeah Blue2012, I think by default the boyfriend is slowing being roped into eating healthily! tee hee. He's grand in fairness and always very supportive. He wants to lose a little himself so hopefully it will be something that we can do together. I've found with our dinners they are always quite healthy, but I just need to watch my portions.
Kept to it well yesterday and today. I'm just back from class, and while I'm not that hungry, I'm still due me dinner and have 9 points left. So stuck some chicken fillets in the oven and will have with asparagus and broccoli.
Tomorrow I will make spicy lentil soup and hopefully I'll be able to snack on that over the weekend. As weekend's are always hardest for me. I always feel like, 'ah its the weekend, I deserve it'...and because I've no off switch, when I start on something naughty, I normally don't finish until I can't move!! so NOT this weekend. I'm determined to be good. Got another class tomorrow night and Saturday morning, so I'll be getting in plenty of exercise.
Weigh in day Sunday, so I'll do it Sunday morning and see what the result is!

HI just thought i'd check in. Been going well with the eating. Doing all my workouts, did 2 classes last night and am pretty stiff today!!! I ran into a little road block about a week ago, my android phone broke, which meant my app which I was completely dependent on was gone!! Its in the repair shop at the moment and someone has kindly lent me an iPhone in the interim, but the app for the iPhone is anywhere near as good...
Anyway I just started writing everything down on paper, as opposed to tracking on my phone. Had to calculate all the points again, as I had it all stored in the other phone's app.
The main reason I'm posting tonight is out of sheer frustration. I mean its hard isn't it? I'm sat here, on a Friday with the OH swigging a couple bottles of Heineken and I'd kill for one but I can't!! I'd love nothing more than to get sozzled on the couch with him, but I've got my weigh in tomorrow and I can't actually believe I've resisted so far!
Crappy tho - its like I'd love to be able to have my cake and eat it! (literally lol). Anyway, I'll stay strong. No beers for me. Actually had my dinner at 6pm (cabbage, 2 new potatoes, broccoli and 2 turkey sausages ) and I'm pretty starving right now!! Will probably just have to go to bed soon to make the hunger go away!! :O

Hi Ryana2 Just wanted to let you know that they have lowered the min amount of points from 29 to 26. At 29 people were not loosing weight. I have to ww calculator so if you want to pm me your height, age and weight I can check and see how many points you should be eating a day. Because I am quiet overweight I can have 34 points so just to make sure your eating the correct amount of points. Hope this helps and best of luck I know how hard it is

thanks snooki, yeah I had read somewhere that they lowered the points. I don't think I'll go lower than 29 tho. Firstly I don't count any of my exercise points and I'm exercising fairly hard most days. I think if I went down to 26 I'd probably collapse!! :-) I guess my biggest struggle is when the OH is having a few beers or having a lovely big pizza to himself and I"m sat there with a 10 point dinner ... And its not like he isn't being supportive. Most mornings he makes me my lunch, to the exact ProPoint. So i'm really delighted with his help . And I can't really expect him to not eat just to please me. Its that 20 / 30 mins that I have to endure, and just get on with it. Cuz then it passes and I feel grand! I weighed in on Saturday and I stayed the same. I had gone a little mental the weekend before, so I think it was just that catching up with me. I wasn't exactly an angel this weekend, but I'm determined to 'up my game' this week and try be positive for the next weigh in. Today I got in 1 hour 20 mins walking today and 1 hour kettlebells. And I did do a low ProPoint today. I don't know if they are in the program, but years ago there used to be low points day that you could throw in. Basically I had 21 Pro Points today. And I'm hoping that that might counter act the bad weekend. Actually reading over today's intake / output it does seem a little low, but I think drastic measures for the 2 creme eggs I ate, plus crisps! But I'll make sure for the new few days to eat all my 29 points and see how I get on! If I have another sh*tty weigh in , I just might have to consider the 26 points!!

Hey Ryana2 - the main thing is to try not put on weight. I was talking to the woman in WW about the 29/26...she was saying they lowered it coz they realised people could eat healthily still within the 26. I did it last week and it was very tough I have to say...the three points were coming off my lunch and I was very hungry...I'll try it every couple of weeks I think but 26 is just a bit too low for me if I've something on the weekend that's going to use up my weekly points.
Exam tomorrow so been on hold this week, but then back on track as they say!!

hi, fair play to you for getting the ball rolling on the weight loss, I have been going to the gym 3 times a week for 4 weeks and can definitely feel a little difference but like you food is my down fall BIG TIME. so i was going to the gym for an hour then coming home and ordering a take away and this was justified by the gym work but this obviously is doing nothing for me so I have joined a website called my fitness pal(can also be got on your mobile as an app if you have an android phone or i phone) where you log in every thing you eat EVERY THING even a cup of tea while also logging in the exercise you do that day, according to it if i keep up the gym work and eat the amount of calories it tells me to for 5 weeks ill loose 13 pounds.....ummm dunno about this but ill give it a go, best of luck to you loosing weight is so bloody hard and enjoy you wedding plans
