Hayfever misery

Hayfever misery

Postby lulu126 » Tue Apr 10, 2022 1:58 pm

So I swear that this year is the worst it's ever been for hayfever. Normally my nose gets a bit itchy and feels like the inside's burning but this year is a whole new story as my eyes have got involved too. They're streaming from a 10 minute walk outside when I get to work in the morning- not a good look! I've tried every over the counter anti-histamine but nothing seems to be making it better. The GP put me on a steroid spray for my nose (h2b said it was like sleeping next to Darth Vader before! :o0 ) which keeps me unblocked for the night but then the next day it all starts back up again. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what I can do? Other than stay inside until the tree pollen's finished?!

I am of the belief that hay fever is dietary related. I had really bad hay fever the last 2 years, so bad I had to go to the doctor for strong telfast anti histamine tablets, nasal spray and eye drops. However I found this year I ve cut put beer from my diet as well as bread and hay fever is much more managable. The odd day my eyes are slightly itchy and I sneeze most mornings but it's nothing like the previous 2 years. My plan was to have a food allergy test done this year but money is tight with a wedding to save for! :o0

My sister suffers with bad hayfever and she, like you lulu126, put a lot of it down to her diet. In her case she cut out dairy and she didn't even need to take anything for it once she was off the dairy.

I suffer from hayfever too, it can be a nightmare. I actually didn't realise diet had an effect on it at all. Is it just wheat and dairy or does it depend on the person what foods cause it?

Thanks for the advice :thnk - not sure I'm convinced by it being related to diet though. Especially as a lot of people have said that this year is the worst they've had their hayfever in a long time. Did go to the GP last week though who put me on a prescription antihistamine which has really improved my symptoms. He also said I might have a polyp though which is why I'm always blocked up. May go for allergy testing when my wedding's over but for now I think I'm happy with the GP's assessment and treatment.
