Re: Honeymoon in Australia?
Hey! We're hoping to do the same. Want to be there for at least five weeks. Plan is to fly into Sydney, stay there for the best part of a week and then start heading up he east coast. We're going to drive up the east coast, hopefully taking about two and a half wks. Then when we hit Cairns, fly from there to the centre and take in Alice springs and Ayers rock. Then from there fly to Adelaide and do the coast drive from there to Melbourne. We'd then fly home from Melbourne. Will be tight and hectic but no point in going that far and not trying to fit as much as possible in! This all needs to be tidied up obviously. If you do go, I'd defo recommend taking in a trip to Fraser island. I thought that was lovely!
I did the whole back packing thing a couple of years ago but H2B as never been. Hope some of this helps!!! [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

Re: Honeymoon in Australia?
Hi
we re looking to do 3 weeks in Oz and 2 weeks in NZ. We are getting married next June so cant book anything until July this year. Our plan so far is fly Dublin to Sydney via Abu Dhabi, stay Sydney for 5 nights, fly to Byron and stay 1 night, hire a car and drive to Noosa, stay 3 nights. Do Fraser Island day tour from here. Drive back to Brisbane just to get flight to Airlie Beach to do Whitsundays for 2 days. Fly from here to Cairns, stay 2/3 nights here and 2/3 nights in Port Douglas. Fly from here onto NZ. Nothing definite but since we only have 3 weeks people recommend fly as much as possible and then hire a car in around the areas to explore. When are you going? would love if others would give us some help with this!! ![]()
Re: Honeymoon in Australia?
We went to Australia/N.Z. for our honeymoon 2 years ago and loved it.
We went via Singapore (2nights) to Cairns and drove down along the coast to Brisbane over 2weeks. Along the way we stayed in Palm Cove (really lovely little town with some gorgeous restaurants & a relaxed atmosphere), Mission Beach (wasn't gone on it tbh) Airlie Beach (great buzz!), Hervey Bay (v nice). We stayed in the Beach Club on Hamilton Island for 2nights which was a real treat and did a 1day Fraser Island trip (had a brilliant guide!). We'd planned on staying in Noosa for a night or two before heading to Brisbane but hassle with the car meant we'd to go straight to Brisbane but we liked the city so didn't make much of a difference. We also drove south to Surfer's Paradise for a day which had a nice buzz to it. From Brisbane we flew to Christchurch & toured around the south island of N.Z. for about 10 days before flying from Queenstown to Sydney for 5days and then home. The highlights for us were: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Not sure if you're planning on including N.Z. but if you can at all I'd highly recommend it - we definitely preferred N.Z. to Oz, it's such a beautiful country and the people are so friendly and helpful. Our one regret was not being able to fit in Melbourne, we've heard so many great stories about it. We also didn't fall in love with Sydney the way so many of our friends that have lived there have but I suppose everyone's different! Re: Honeymoon in Australia?
Hi
can I ask you, did you drive around the South Island of NZ or do a tour. We cant decide how to do it. thanks a mill ![]()
Re: Honeymoon in Australia?
We drove. We stayed in Christchurch for about 4nights and hired a car there to drive north to Kaikoura to go whale watching and then stopped at Hamner Springs on the way down for a dip in the springs. From there we caught the Tranzalpine train across to Greymouth & picked up another car and drove south to Franz Josef for a spot of glacier trekking (great fun!), on to Wanaka for a night before heading to Queenstown (brilliant atmosphere!). We were there during their winter so there were certain roads we couldn't drive because we didn't have chains for the tyres but it was great having the independence of the car.
We only had about 10days in N.Z. but still managed to fit in most of what we wanted. Our only regret is that we never got to Milford Sound but that just means we have to go back again!! ![]() Re: Honeymoon in Australia?
thanks a mill for reply....scared of bad weather for driving but seems to be the best way to go. we are hoping to skip christchurch and do milford sound but will be hard to queeze it all in over 9nights!!

Re: Honeymoon in Australia?
Don't worry about the weather - we had lovely crisp days with great sunshine while we were there. It was just cold but that meant we got to go skiing in Queenstown so look for the silver lining!
Re: Honeymoon in Australia?
We looked through a Trailfinders brochure yesterday and kinda decided on East Coast - I don't know why?!
Flying into Sydney and staying 4/5 nights (Its my birthday during this time so would like to do something special) Then hire a car and go up the east coast. Trailfinders recommend Surfers Paradice, Byron Bay, Fraser Island... We plan on going to Brisbane. Anywhere else we should visit? Whitsundays? Cairns? Can anyone recommend when we leave Sydney - what stops we should make? Where abouts should we stay along the way? Port Stephens? Coffs Harbour? Should we stay in Surfers Paradise and/or Bryon Bay for a couple of days? Should you stay on Fraser Island or just do a day tour??
