Different wedding dress than I thought...

Different wedding dress than I thought...

Postby Bridey2013 » Wed May 02, 2022 9:23 am

Hi All!

Recently got my wedding dress and couldn't believe how different is was to what I first thought I wanted! Originally thought I wanted a v simple, v fitted evening gown style dress - tried some on and liked them but then I tried on a princess style one because I liked the top of it and just loved it as soon as I put it on! I've gone from wanting an evening dress with no veil to a princess style one with veil and all!

Just wondered if anyone else found this happen to them?

I could have written that post myself!

Wanted something simple and straight; tried on everything i had seen in bridal mags that i loved but although they were lovely i didn't feel very special in them. Then went to another shop and when the girls asked what i wanted in a dress i told her i had no idea (was so disillusioned!) so she came out with a "princess" dress and i put it on.....mum & aunt were with me and they were both in tears....loved it!

Me too, i thought i wanted something flowly and light and simple - Then i realised that i'm a short ar$e getting married in Ireland, not a supermodel getting married on the beach!
I think alot of the time the girls in the shop know what they're talking about and it'd worth listening to their advice.

I was the same, i wanted something straight up and down and simple, but ended up going full whack into a massive dress with big train, with 100's of swarovski crystals..

In the end i decided that i could wear a plainer dress anytime, as i could get a copy of plainer styles in different colours, but a dress like mine i could never go to an evening do with!! :)

I was exactly the same. I originally either wanted a column dress, straight up and down and covered in lace or a short dress and I was certain I didn't want a veil. I've ended up with a much plainer A-line dress with just a few crystals and pearls at the waist....and I love it! It's just perfect for me. Have also gone for a chapel length veil with diamantés scattered through it. When I was in the shop I was just drawn to the A-line dresses more and then when they put the veil on I was convinced!

I think the most important thing is that your dress makes you feel special and I don't think you know what dress is going to do that until you start trying on. Congrats on finding your dress!

Hee! Glad to see I'm not alone and hear other people's experiences! I think it does come down to going with the one that feels special enough for the big day. When I put 'the' dress on it just felt different to any other that I tried on - tried on a few others after and they just didn't feel the same. Have a good few months to go still but delighted to have the dress sorted - now for the next bit of fun.. shoes :heartbeat:

Was exactly the same - wanted something light and flowy and vintagey. Haven't made the final decision yet but current top choice is very traditional....and strapless and I swore I wasn't going strapless!! It's hard cos you want your dress to reflect your personal taste but at the end of the day it has to suit you as well!! Glad to hear I'm not the only one!!

I wanted something in lace or chiffon or organza. I knew that I didn't want satin or a train.

So this will be my dress and its satin with a train :o0

i didnt think it would happen to me - that when you try on THE dress you'll know.
I tried on my dress and was almost certain it was the one but said id try on another one, while i was standing on the podium with the mirrors around me in the other dress all i could look at was the first dress i tried on, which was hanging up behind me :) if that wasn't a sign i dunno what is.

Have ended up with THE dress that I LOVE :lvs :lvs :lvs It just happens to be fairly traditional...Satin .with alot of scattered sparkle!!!! With a very long train.... :yelrotflmaosmilie: :yelrotflmaosmilie: The minute i tried it on ( on the insistence of the assistant!!) I adored it and fell in love !!!!
