Postby ClaireT1981 » Mon May 14, 2022 2:46 pm

I'm sure this thread has been done a thousand times before but i am now thinking of doing a DIY candy buffet, can anyone tell me where to start? What do i need to get and how do you display it at the reception?

You could start by collecting jars and glasses - keep an eye out in your local €2 shop, woodies, tk maxx, etc

Scoops and bags can be gotten fairly cheapily on eBay, or you could make paper cones.

To decorate your tables you don't need a lot if you don't want. To jazz it up you could scatter petals in your bridesmaids colours, or match a table cloth - you can place some of your jars on boxes for height if you wish. You could also put little tealights on the table, or the LED ones if you've kids about..

If you google candy buffets you'll see lots of pictures which should give you lots of ideas...

Jumping on this thread...I thought the main candy buffet people would charge in and around €300...boy was I wrong. One supplier doubted it could be done for that at all - I suppose what I'm wondering is, how much have people been spending on their DIY buffets (we're having 150 - 200 people)...thanks!

So far I have spent about €30 on jars/containters. Bought mostly in heaton's & they had biscuit jars in tesco for €2.00 & picked up a few of them. My mother also has some sweet jars that I will be using, so in total I will have about 15-16.
Spent €40 on paper bags, cellophane bags, sweet scoops & thongs - all bought on ebay.
I have done a quick calculation on the sweets I want to buy & it will come to about €49 from onlinesweetshop.eu
Am buying Milk Teeth, Bananas, Cinder Toffee, Coconut Mushrooms, White & Chocolate Jazzies, Flying Saucers, Foam Strawberries, Giant Cola Bottles, Love Heart Dips.
Have already picked up Black Jacks & Fruits Salads from Lidl last week. 99cent per packet.
Got my loveheart sweets in Aldi when they were on offer for Valentines.

Are you all putting the sweets out from the minute you arrive in hotel, or after the meal or when? I have been collecting jars over the past six months, and hope to order sweets online. Anyone know any reasonable website where i can buy retro sweets- black jacks, fruit salads etc.

Have not decided yet on when to take out the table. Will have it set up from the evening before. Our wedding cor-ordinator in the hotel reckons we should not take it out until after the meal. Kinda of agree as we will be having, homemade scones & biscuits & canapes on arrival & feel the guests should have enough & don't want them to spoil their dinner. Will think about it again closer to the time & decide.
What has worked for other brides who have had one?

Will get the rest of the sweets there, aldi, €2shop, will wait till Halloween when there's loads out, will prob spend €100. How much does it cost to do a DIY candy buffet for 200 guests? I think I spent way too much, didn't know about that sweet shop online at the time.
