Hi everyone. We are supplying our own wine for our wedding, but what i'm wondering is; do we order more white wine or more red wine? i am a red drinker myself but just wonder if anyone could let me know which was more popular at their wedding or weddings that they have been to. thanks a mill

I drink red too but apparently white is more popular, especially at weddings. I've a few friends in the hotel industry and I used to work in the industry myself and people do seem to chug back the white more. We're going for 60% white and 40% red. You could also choose based on your menu, or the time of year. White could be more popular if it's likely to be a nice, warm day as opposed to a winter wedding.

how much wine per person? What do you think of Villa Maria sauvignon blanc (white) and Oyster bay Merlot (red) or maybe you know of nicer wines? Any help with this would be great....thanks

I haven't tried either of those but I heard Oyster Bay is good.

We've decided to get our wine in Superquinn. We had huge tasting sessions over the past few weeks and there are some great offers on at the moment on really good wine.

We've decided to go for a Pinot Grigio that's reduced from €14.99 to 3 bottles for €20 - it's called Terrazze Della Luna Pinot Grigio. And for the red, we're going to go for El Circulo Rioja Crianza, which is currently on offer from €19.99 down to €9 per bottle. For every six bottles you buy, you get 5% off too, which is another saving on top of your saving. There are loads of good offers at the moment on loads of different wines. Check out the website.

I'm not a wine buff at ALL but I do know what I like and what I don't like, and I do know what kind of stuff is served at high end hotels, just from working there. My advice would be just to taste and see what you like.

I went with Pinot Grigio and Rioja as apparently they are appealing to most people and are fresh and easy to drink. And we just liked those two that we've settled on.

Oh, and as for quantity, the industry standard in my day was to get 3/4 of a bottle per person.

This has been done before if you do a search there are lots of replies. Unfortunately there is no definate answer. Your best bet would be to buy extra to cover having enough red & white. Many places will let you do sale or return on the wine so you can bring back whatever isn't used.

Most people will tell you that white is more popular but it really depends on the personal tastes of your guests, the menu, the weather etc etc. We used 50% red, 50% white at our wedding.
