Postby Urban Fairy » Tue Feb 02, 2022 2:36 pm

Hey girls,
Im not trying to concieve till after the wedding, and when I say 'try' I more so mean stop 'not' trying if you get me!!

Have any of you advice of what I can do NOW, 7-9 months before we even start giving it a go.

I imagine keeping healthy is a good one, any vitamins etc people can recommend?

Thanks in advance

I'm not even TTC yet and looks like we would be for another few months. But I think its great that you are getting organised early.

I was asking about advice last week about vitnams. I thought my normal multivitnam would have enough folic acid in it as it said 100 % RDA (200mg). However apparently they recommend 400mg if your TTC. In the end I went with Sanatogen Before Conception and During Pregnancy. But theres cheaper boots brands that are probably just as good.

Heres the link with the recommendations:
viewtopic.php?f=26&t=241289

You are suppost to start taking them at least 3 months before you start TTC. However if theres any chance you might change your mind and decide to try earlier then I would start taking the vitnams sooner (We've decided to wait an extra 2 months to make sure I'm on the fully recommended amount of folic acid for 3 months before TTC).

Other then that, if your due a smear sign up on the cervical register asap. And someone mentioned getting tested to make sure you still have your Rubela immunity.

Any good books or CD's to buy?
It would be great if there was a "In preparation TTC to do/checklist "

hey dub_angel,

Vitamins are v important and I would start taking note of your cycles as soon as you can too so that when you come to ttc you are sure of your ov days and your luteal phase (look up threads for def), especially if AF is not regular.

Don't go into it blind like I did, be as clued up as much as you can.

Good Luck ! :o)ll

Agree! I was too shy to post hear and ask when it seemed like ages until we started but I would drop in to get a bit of info. It would have been great if there was a "getting started" sticky.

H Dub angel,
I'm in exactly the same situation as you. Picked up from this forum the recommendation to get the Take Control of Your Fertility book, then you have the background to what everyone is talking about. It may be a shock to read it all - or just confirming what you were aware of but getting lots of more info. It's hard work sorting it all out but is certainly good to have it in the background before you start the emotional roller coaster of ttc. My good news today is that, although I have a longish cycle, it seems that I do ovulate (nothing guaranteed at my advanced age!)
If you are on the pill, have a read of the different posts about coming off it - it might be no harm to do it now so that you are ready to go when you get married. It can take quite a while to get things stabilised.
Enjoy the wedding preps (or are you wondering, like us, why on earth we haven't decided to elope) and the fun of ttc afterwards!

Well done BlossomHill! Its now a sticky.

I've tried to summaries the main points:

At least 3 months before TTC start take a daily dose of 400mg of Folic Acid. This can be taken as part of a multivitamin such as Sanatogen Before Conception and During Pregnancy/Seven Seas for ttc mothers and expectant mothers/Boots do a Mum to Be tablet.

Have your Rubella immunity tested (also known as German measles).

If your due a smear get booked in.

Get checked for all STDs just in case.

Recommended reading: Take Control of Your Fertility book
Anyone have any additional recommendations? Do most people start trying the first month of the pill or wait until their proper AF comes back?

I'd also be interested in general ones such as over all health and fitness.

Hi girls,

Great post, i was always a bit nervous coming on here to ask incase i was told oh well "you should know" silly me. I just started folic acid so any other info would be great. Im not too sure about taking Iron as i was told that if your not lacking Iron its very bad to take it.

Smear is a good idea though. You will prob start shouting at me but i have never had one. :duh: So going to book myself in for one now so. When is the right time to go for one?

Thanks

Excellent sticky!

Girls the book is called Taking Charge of Your Fertility by T Weschler.
There's a website toohttp://www.tcoyf.com

My tip would be to get off the pill at least 6 months to a year before TTC and definitely keep track of your cycle length, cervical fluid pattern and when you're feeling particularly frisky >:o) each month.

Best of luck to you all :babydust:

Thats definately food for thought. I always presumed you just came off the pill and went for it :-8

I took a year break from the pill about 3 years ago and my cycle returned very quickly so I'm hoping it will happen again. Given that we are hoping to start in a couple of months maybe I'll just finish this pack and use other protection until we're ready. I know this is a silly question but is there any advantage in waiting for a proper AF (i.e. not the light ones while on the pill) before trying?

Hey big leap, there are many girls who come off the pill and get pregnant straight away, or whose periods return to normal immediately and you could be one, however there is a whole thread (and many more) of us who were not so lucky and did not get a proper AF for 4-5 months after coming off the pill.
Personally, I stopped the pill in Sept 2008 and didnt get first AF until Jan/Feb 09 and when I began TTC in June 09 my cycles were still long and irregular only stabilising around Sept 09, a year later.
Its a personal choice but if you are well informed about what can happen to your body after being on the pill, it will help you make that decision. I was on the pill for about 15 years I had a couple of breaks and my cycles returned OK then but not when I needed them to!
Good Luck
