Cake box in Dun laoghaire

I cant believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cake box have increased the price of their simply elegant range of cakes by 50euro. Just because they get an award last year means they can increase the prices????? this is crazy. Mark cake was 199 last year, now its 250????

You'd be better off buying your cake in Marks & Spencers and decorating yourself, their cakes are lovely.

Increasing prices isn't really an option for brides at the moment so I'd go elsewhere!

Just got off the phone to patrica, The lady that works there and she said that they put up the price the start of this year and also that they would not honour the quote that they gave me last year. That is just crazy. Have looked at M&S, and the cake box were the same price with a better selection of filling, no they have cut filling options on the simply elegant range also. No cake for me so.....

Hi Yvonne

Thats a huge price increase - shame on Cakebox!! And with new limitations of flavours - shame shame shame!!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but as far as I know you can only get the M&S wedding fruit cake in ROI and would have to go up North for other flavours

i've been buying christmas cakes for my granny the last few years, it's one of the last treats she can really enjoy, and she doesn't really bother with gifts or material items, so a nice cake is her tipple come the festive season.
i've been buying down there for maybe 5-6 years now and they've always been expensive, but very nice, presentation and taste...but weddings are so costly and i really don't see why confectioneers should be taking advantage of us especially in these hard times, it would more than likely stand to them better to drop their prices?

What was the lady's justification Yvonne when you asked why their prices had gone up?

Hi all She had no really explanation except that the boss put the price up, that was it. So instead of the cake costing 199 its now 250 with choc or fruit flavour only in this range and then 50 euro delivery to station house kilmessan. So Im going with a different crowd altogether, bun.ie in kildare. they make cupcakes and cakes for cutting. They do a package for 350, and the decoration and flavours will be out of this world compared to the design of the simply range. I would highly recommended anyone to have a look that doesnt like traditional wedding cake with icing and marzipan. I hate that bit. By the way the package im going for includes

A meeting with you both at the Bakery to discuss flavours, colours and decoration types.

Custom design Wedding Buns in either mini or reg sizes.

6 inch cake for the “cutting of the cake” ceremony to match Buns.

Deliver and set-up at the Wedding venue.

Hire of a 5 tiered stand for display.

Mini size buns there are 200 of those or 150 reg size. Orginally I was going for the mark cake which was the cheapest around but now it will cost me 300 including delivery so for an extra 50 euro I think bun.ie is a better deal. I spoke with Paula, She and her husband own the business.

You see that just drives me insane. If there was some kind of national shortage of flower/marzipan/sugar icing at the moment, you would understand an increase but honestly, who in their right mind would not only put prices up at the moment but would refuse to honour 2009 prices with brides who booked last year? If they need to put prices up because their doing badly, well they wont last long with those kind of tactics.

Sorry we at cakebox will honor any booking made in 2009 for 2010 in the simply elegant range .
We did inform any brides that made enquires in relation to these cakes in november and december that we where incresing the price by €50.00 as we can't cover the cost any longer. But we did give every bride that call our shop the option to book before , this came into effect. We have only Put up the price of 3 cakes in a range from over 300 on our web site ,We would not have done so only we had no choice.
I hope this will explain in some way why this was done.
If you have any futher question please feel free to e mail here or contact us on 01 2801870 or our free phone 1800 200 464.
Regards
Jennifer

Hi,
I was at a wedding fair last September in Whites of Wexford and cakesunlimited.ie were doing an offer for 120 cupcakes and an 8" top tier for €200 and €30 for stand hire. This offer was due to be finished at the end of december but she has extended it until the end of March 2010 due to popular demand, I'm not surprised.

It's a pity Cakebox have done this, a 25% increase in the price is bizarre!
I had seen a cake in the Simply Elegant range that I was going to order. No chance now, on principle I won't give business to a firm for pushing up their prices by that much when every other supplier I've dealt with has been more flexible on costs.

Just out of curiosity, I don't think you've explained the reason for the increase, certainly not enough to satisfy me anyway.

Flour has hardly gone up so much that it costs €50 extra per cake to make. Cakebox haven't done themselves any favours and seem quite arrogant about it in my opinion!

that's obsered, they could have at least been able to give an adequate reason as to why they put their prices up, i know petrol etc has gone up but christ, delivering a cake should have such a profound effect on it overall cost, bun.ie thanks for the tip yvonne
