Communion - Cash or Prize Bonds

Communion - Cash or Prize Bonds

Postby Ellefun » Mon Apr 23, 2022 2:26 pm

My niece is making her communion this weekend. She is the 1st of the nieces and nephews to make it. I was thinking of a Prize Bond instead of cash. Or is that lame or a no no?

I don't see anything wrong with it, but the last person I know to make a communion was me, so I'm not an authority on the subject.

i think at that age a prize bond will just look like a piece of paper to them. atleast with money they know that they can buy things they like or save it for a big object!

Rule of thumb in our house is €50 from grandparents/godparents and €20/30 from aunty/uncle we have a big family and in one year there is usually 3 if not 4 making communion or confirmation.

For my friends and cousins I would give €10/€15 or a gift

My niece is making her communion next month and I'm thinking €30 as she's saving up for an iTouch. My other niece who is also my Goddaughter is making her confirmation and I'm standing for her at the mass...so she's getting €50 and a chain to wear on the day....although if unexpected bills keep on coming that might be downgraded to €30!! :-8

I gave my niece a tenner, I think €30 is a lot. Too much from an aunty but everyone's different.
